PMHNP, 4 years of experience
I'm Lisa Shaffer, a board- certified PMHNP providing treatment for psychiatric ailments and disorders across the lifespan. I have been practicing in a variety of clinical care settings since 2015. Clinical care areas I've worked and trained in include inpatient, outpatient and emergency care (medical and psychiatric). Over the years my practice has evolved to provide a more holistic approach. While I continue to prescribe medication, I strongly believe that finding the root cause of symptoms through a functional medicine approach provides client's with the best outcomes.
My client’s may begin lifestyle, and dietary changes, in effort to provide treatment while minimizing side effects that may result from traditional pharmacological treatments. I do use conventional medicine when appropriate and beneficial as part of a treatment plan. I do not prescribe benzodiazepines, or stimulants.
I believe I can connect with patients in truly understanding their emotions, challenges, and needs. This allows me to tailor my approach to their individual circumstances. Each client will undergo a comprehensive assessment using a holistic approach to assess their mental health while also considering environmental, physical, and psychological factors that may impact their well-being. I ensure clear and effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues, which fosters trust and promotes better care outcomes.
My personal interest in living a healthy life style and root cause medicine led me on the path to pursue a certification as a Functional Medicine practitioner. Understanding a client’s unique physiology, and history allows me to define individualized treatment plans for each client.
CBT is flexible and can be used for a wide range of conditions, from depression and anxiety to trauma and stress management. It’s often brief and structured, which allows clients to see progress relatively quickly, making it highly effective.
