New to Grow
Healing begins when you finally feel safe enough to stop pretending you're okay. That is the space Dr. Shawn creates. Clients often describe therapy with Dr. Shawn as feeling like sitting across from someone who genuinely sees them before asking them to change. She believes that every behavior has a story, every protective response once served a purpose, and every person deserves to be understood without shame. Whether someone is recovering from trauma, learning healthier boundaries, navigating life transitions, or simply longing to feel like themselves again, Dr. Shawn meets them with compassion, honesty, and hope. She helps clients move beyond surviving toward living with greater peace, confidence, and emotional freedom. Her goal is simple: To create a space where you no longer have to carry your story alone and where healing becomes something you experience, not just something you talk about.
Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" Dr. Shawn gently explores, "What happened to you, and how has your mind and body worked so hard to protect you?" With more than two decades of experience, Dr. Shawn specializes in helping women heal from anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, childhood wounds, generational patterns, and the emotional exhaustion that comes from carrying everyone else while neglecting yourself. Her work is especially meaningful fo women navigating the weight of expectations, family roles, and the quiet pressure to remain strong for everyone around them.
My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and deeply reflective, it combines evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, parts work (IFS-informed), mindfulness, and somatic interventions. It's a genuine conversation that feels natural rather than clinical. Sessions often include practical tools for calming the nervous system while helping clients understand the deeper patterns influencing their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. I believe healing is not about becoming someone new. It is about reconnecting with the version of yourself that has always existed beneath survival.
My ideal client is the woman who has spent so much of her life taking care of everyone else that she's forgotten how to take care of herself. She may appear successful, dependable, and "strong" to others, yet privately she feels overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from who she truly is. Many of the women I work with are navigating the effects of childhood trauma, difficult family relationships, grief, anxiety, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or relationship challenges. They often say things like, "I know what I should do, but I can't seem to get there," or "I'm tired of carrying this alone." My clients are not looking for someone to simply listen they're looking for lasting change. They want to understand why they respond the way they do, heal the wounds that continue to affect their present, and learn healthier ways to relate to themselves and the people they love. Together, we create a space where you can slow down, understand your story without judgment, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been buried beneath responsibility, survival, and expectations. Whether you're healing from trauma, navigating life transitions, learning healthier boundaries, or simply ready to choose yourself, therapy can become the place where you begin to feel like yourself again.

I identify as
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-supported therapy that helps the brain process painful memories that may still be affecting your thoughts, emotions, and body. Rather than reliving the past, EMDR helps your brain organize and heal from distressing experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming in the present. Through guided bilateral stimulation and a safe, supportive process, many clients find they can move forward with greater peace, resilience, and emotional freedom.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment with curiosity, awareness, and without judgment. It helps you slow down, notice your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, and respond with intention rather than reacting automatically. Over time, mindfulness can reduce stress, increase emotional balance, and help you feel more connected to yourself and your daily life.
Interpersonal
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) focuses on improving your relationships and understanding how life changes, grief, conflict, or communication patterns may be affecting your emotional well-being. Together, we'll identify healthier ways to express your needs, strengthen your connections with others, and navigate difficult transitions with greater confidence. As your relationships become healthier, many people experience improvements in mood, self-esteem, and overall quality of life.
Somatic
Somatic Therapy recognizes that our bodies often carry the effects of stress, trauma, and overwhelming life experiences, even when our minds are ready to move forward. By increasing awareness of physical sensations, breath, and nervous system responses, we'll help your body release stored tension and develop a greater sense of safety and regulation. This gentle, body-centered approach supports emotional healing while helping you feel more grounded, connected, and present in your daily life
