About me

Hello, I'm Nancy. I admire your wisdom and courage in reaching out for help. It is a strength to ask for help when we need it - and we all need it from time to time! Whatever your specific areas of struggle, there are clear steps from where you are to where you wish to be. Together, we will define and then walk those steps. My clients say they feel seen, safe, heard, and understood with me; that I am compassionate, non-judgmental, and supportive. I want to provide this for you, along with tools to discover and resolve that which is causing you distress. My guiding work centers around you, as the expert on your life. Together, we can uncover, unravel, and reclaim control of the problems keeping you stuck, while , learning, understanding, and internalizing techniques toward healing, growth, peace and joy - using a variety of therapeutic approaches & concrete processes that bring tangible, sustainable results. I am a Masters level Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Addiction Specialist. My specializations include trauma resolution, life transitions, anxiety, addiction and substance use/abuse issues, dementia and caregiving for those struggling with dementia, anger management, depression, eating disorders, family relationships, grief/bereavement, medical issues/physical health, OCD, phobias, PTSD, intimate/romantic relationships, sex/intimacy issues, sleep disorders, somatic symptom disorder, spirituality and faith based, stress management, work stress (with specific knowledge and experience with Teach for America and other educators) My passion and commitment have only grown through these years as a therapist. I strive to not only decrease distress but also to increase joy. Let's start on your personal journey toward these things today!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

We will meet, discussing what motivated you to seek therapy and ways in which we can collaborate to address these issues, identifying your goals for therapy as we do this. As we begin to get to know one another, we will discuss possible treatment methods, develop a treatment plan together that is personalized for you, and talk about expected outcomes as well as the means of achieving them.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Given my background working with people struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues, hospice patients, educators, addiction and recovery, and court-mandated clients; I have experience with a wide variety of mental health issues and the problems we face in life, as well as clinically developed therapeutic approaches with proven effective interventions to utilize in guiding patients to the best possible outcomes for them.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I most enjoy working with clients who are not seeking merely to relieve distress, but to increase joy. I believe we as therapists need to employ a therapeutic approach that centralizes the idea that the client is more than a collection of problems to be solved, but is instead a whole and unique person. It is an honor to guide clients to tangible, sustainable improvements in overall quality of life, as well as addressing specific problems and their solutions.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have found cognitive behavioral therapy to be very effective in helping people identify their thoughts, feelings and behavior patterns that are causing them distress and keeping them stuck in negative places in their lives. With CBT modalities, people can change these patterns, getting them unstuck, and freeing them to move forward in living the life they desire to live.

Trauma Informed Care

I utilize trauma informed care across various treatment approaches to create a safe, trusting, supportive, and empowering environment so that clients are able to address their experiences with distance and understanding, fostering resilience and healing. It is necessary in discovering how traumatic and other adverse experiences are being held in the brain and body and negatively effecting present day life.

Psychodynamic

I focus on early life experiences and relationships to help the client understand and address the root causes of their suffering, and to aid them in directly addressing harmful unconscious beliefs and patterns.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I utilize SFBT with clients who are solutions-based and seeking to solve specific problems, as opposed to more broad-based analysis. Many clients prefer a short duration of treatment focusing on a specific challenge and are action-oriented, so this approach can be good fit in such cases.

Eclectic

I usually employ a combination of approaches, because each client presents a unique combination of personality traits. The eclectic approach allows client and therapist to collaborate on a customized treatment plan utilizing multiple therapeutic approaches. We can address complex problems using such a multifaceted approach.

Nancy is wonderfully encouraging and kind. She meets you where you're at in the moment, and helps you process through very difficult emotions, trauma, and situations while building a toolbox for resilience and faith. I would recommend her to anyone who needs supportive mental health care from an experienced and caring provider.
