New to Grow
My name is Jose Ruiz. I am a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with over 20 years in private practice. I received my education at Columbia University and New York University. My training includes psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). My approach is eclectic and grounded in evidence-based research. I draw from multiple therapeutic frameworks to understand each patient's unique emotional experience and help them find better ways to manage their mental health.
I help patients feel empowered to better manage their emotions and behaviors. Together, we identify patterns and behaviors that have caused confusion, pain, or feelings of loss—and create a plan to move forward. I work with patients on anxiety, depression, anger management, conflict resolution, intimacy, and social skills. Central to this process is developing an emotional vocabulary that allows you to express yourself effectively.
My goal is to help patients explore and access parts of themselves they haven't been able to reach before. This journey begins with building trust, then moves into deeper exploration of your history, family dynamics, relational patterns, and self-image. Along the way, we develop an emotional vocabulary that helps you express yourself more effectively. Therapy isn't always easy—it can be uncomfortable—but with time, that discomfort gives way to growth and fulfillment.
