Hello, my name is Jacob. I am a psychotherapist, substance abuse counselor, and educator in Wisconsin. I work with students dealing with anxiety, trauma, mood concerns, and academic stress. Many are navigating neurodivergence in different areas of life. We often start by slowing things down and focusing on how here and now experiences connect to larger patterns. With careful listening, thoughts become clearer and more manageable. We build a strong, authentic connection so you can show up as yourself. My work includes EMDR, existential approaches, and other evidence-based practices. An authentic connection can help remove the masks that limit insight into life’s challenges. No topic is too large or small. I am excited to start this journey with you.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session tends to be focus on what therapy will be like. We will go over privacy practices, initial assessments, and goal setting. I know starting therapy can be daunting. However, scheduling the first session is a huge step forward. Figuring out where to start is often part of the process. I look forward to supporting you along the way.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Clients have shared benefiting from my efforts to push them towards deeper insights about their life. This often comes from various trauma informed practices. Strength based interventions also help to empower my clients towards their goals. I focus on fully understanding my clients in order to best help them.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I look forward to helping teenagers and early career professionals. Clients have improved their stress and reaction to trauma. I am also a special education teacher focused on emotional behavioral disabilities. Because of this, I am very familiar with the stress of succeeding at school, especially with learning differences. These learning and behavioral differences often affect clients as they leave school too. It can cause stress when starting a family and growing in careers. I look forward to meeting you!

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

A variety of interventions focus on building a greater understanding of ourselves in relation to others. Insight is usually built by identifying previous patterns that continue to form in our current life. These long term interventions improve well being and performance.

EMDR

This is a gold standard in the treatment of trauma and other stressful events. This can be used for a variety of concerns. I have personally seen clients make serious growth when traditional therapies have slowed down.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

Basic interventions focused on improving thoughts and emotions. REBT is a precursor to other approaches such as cogintive behavioral therapy and dialectural behavioral therapy. I have experience providing CBT and DBT. But, clients seem to prefer a mix of REBT and mindfulness practices.

Eclectic

Eclectic treatment methods essentially mean that I use a variety of other counseling interventions to better personalize the best course of treatment for the client. I routinely borrow from motivational interviewing, solution focused techniques, and other client centered approaches. There are a lot of counseling techniques that I am comfortable using. Please ask me for more information about different techniques and counseling interventions. At the beginning of therapy, I try to provide a basic understanding of how therapy works. But, I am more than happy to explain more of the specific details.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

A common treatment for insomnia. However, a prescriber may need to determine that your sleep concerns are caused by insomnia. Other sleep concerns may need additional treatment for CBT-I to be effective.
