New to Grow
Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, past experiences, or the demands of everyday life? Maybe you find yourself overthinking, feeling emotionally drained, struggling to relax, or having difficulty moving forward after difficult experiences. You don't have to figure it all out alone. I'm Catherine Sorenson Letson, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 18 years of experience in the mental health field. I provide a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood without pressure to have everything figured out before you begin. My approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, with evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and solution-focused strategies incorporated when appropriate. Together, we'll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you while developing practical coping skills, understanding patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and working toward greater emotional well-being and a more fulfilling life. You don't have to have all the answers before starting therapy. We can begin wherever you are.
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know one another and talk about what has been weighing on you. You don't need to have the right words or know exactly where to begin. We'll discuss what you're experiencing, what you'd like to change, and what you hope therapy can provide. I'll take time to understand your concerns, your history, your strengths, and the things that are important to you. Together, we'll develop a treatment plan that fits your needs and goals. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, respected, and hopeful about the possibility of moving forward.
One of my greatest strengths is creating a space where people feel safe enough to be honest about what they're experiencing. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to listen, understand, and help you discover what works best for you. My 18 years in the mental health field have given me experience working with adolescents and adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. My own life experiences have also deepened my empathy and understanding that healing does not always happen in a straight line. I won't judge you or try to change who you are. We'll work together to understand what you're going through, build on your strengths, develop healthier coping skills, and work toward the quality of life you want.
I work best with adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, the effects of past trauma, or significant life changes. This may include people who feel overwhelmed, constantly worried, emotionally exhausted, stuck in difficult thought patterns, or unsure how to move forward. I also enjoy working with people who are navigating college or other major transitions, relationship concerns, self-esteem difficulties, and changes in their sense of identity or direction. Whether you're seeking therapy for the first time or have been in therapy before, I provide a collaborative, supportive environment where we can work at a pace that feels right for you.
Person-centered therapy is at the heart of my approach. I believe meaningful therapy begins with feeling heard, respected, and understood. I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to counseling, so I tailor treatment to your individual needs, strengths, experiences, and goals. I also use a trauma-informed approach, recognizing that past experiences can affect the way we think, feel, relate to others, and respond to stress. When helpful, I incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-focused strategies, solution-focused therapy, and strength-based interventions. Together, we'll identify what is getting in the way, develop practical coping skills, build on your strengths, and work toward meaningful and lasting change.
