Hello, my name is Catherine Roberts, I became a therapist because I enjoy getting to know people on a natural level. My goal is to help guide people through personal challenges to achieve healthier minds. It is possible to learn how to escape from feeling overwhelmed. As a collaborative partner, I would like to help empower you to face life's challenges to a healthier mental well-being. I graduated from Clark Atlanta University, where I obtained my Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology. Now, as a licensed professional counselor, I have worked in private practice for more than fifteen years. I primarily work with clients experiencing depression, grief and loss, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, and addiction. Before working in private practice, I worked as a clinical therapist in an inpatient mental health facility. I work with children, adolescents, and adults, using Cognitive and Dialectical therapies to help my clients learn better ways to cope with life stressors. When you can change the way you think about issues, you are empowered to work to change life outcomes. I believe in being a collaborative partner while working to develop a trusting relationship with my clients. I will work to help you gain the proper tools to escape feeling overwhelmed to learn how to manage life's many challenges.
In our first session, we will begin with brief introductions. We will discuss your need for therapy, and what you can expect during the sessions. Thereafter, we will talk about your goals, and discuss what strategies and interventions that may work.
When I am determining treatment strategies and interventions, I will ask questions about previous therapy, treatment history, personal relationships, family of origin mental health diagnosis, and any emotional concerns in childhood. I also use the PHQ9 to help determine if the client is experiencing any depression, and the GAD 7 to assess anxiety. I like to use treatment modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
I became a therapist because I really enjoy getting to know people on a real level. I also like guiding people through their personal challenges to help them achieve a healthier body and mind. My area of expertise is working to help people regulate their emotions by using mindfulness, meditation, and cognitive reframing.
