Sue Tyce
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Associate Professor who is passionate about helping individuals understand their story, recognize their patterns, and step into a healthier, more aligned version of themselves. My approach is warm, grounded, and collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, insight oriented and narrative perspectives, and when clients desire it religious and spiritual principles that support identity, purpose, and hope. My “NEW ME” philosophy centers on helping clients release old narratives, build clarity, and create space for the person they are becoming. In both my clinical work and my role as a faculty member, I value reflection, self -awareness, and intentional growth. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore who they are, develop practical skills, and move toward meaningful, sustainable change.
First session
In our first session, you can expect a warm, grounded space where we begin exploring your story at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I’ll ask about what brings you to therapy and we’ll spend time clarifying your goals, identifying strengths, and beginning to understand the themes shaping your experiences. I’ll also share how I work, answer any questions you have, and make sure you feel supported and understood. My “NEW ME” philosophy guides this process: together, we start creating space for clarity, alignment, and the healthier version of yourself you’re working toward.
Strengths
I bring a grounded presence and a reflective, insight-oriented approach to every session. My strengths include helping clients understand their story, recognize patterns that keep them stuck, and build practical skills that support meaningful change. My “NEW ME” philosophy guides my work; I help clients understand and honor their Needs, Expectations, and Wants while learning to Manage their Emotions in healthier, more intentional ways. It guides clients toward clarity, alignment, and personal growth by helping them release old patterns, build emotional awareness, and step into a more grounded, authentic version of themselves.
Ideal clients
I work well with clients of all backgrounds who want to understand their story but feel stuck in recognizing their patterns. I’m especially effective with individuals who are motivated to grow, even if they’re unsure where to begin. I support people navigating substance use disorders, mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, and identity questions. My ideal clients value reflection, want to deepen their self-awareness, and are open to integrating insight, skill building, and when desired faith-based perspectives. I offer a warm, grounded, collaborative space where clients can grow at their own pace and feel supported in becoming the healthiest version of themselves.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a foundation while integrating insight oriented, narrative, and faith-based perspectives when helpful. In my practice, CBT helps clients understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while psychoanalytic and narrative approaches deepen self-awareness, explore patterns, and make meaning of personal stories. When clients desire it, I also incorporate biblical and spiritual principles to support healing, identity, and hope. My approach is collaborative, reflective, and tailored to each person’s needs, so they feel grounded, empowered, and supported throughout the therapeutic process.
