My name is Gianna and I am Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. For 20 years years I have been working with individuals struggling with varying types of mental health issues, which has provided a wealth of experience. In my years as a therapist I've seen that trauma and anxiety are prevalent in almost all of us. Currently, I work with adults whose grief, anxiety or past trauma have caused an impasse and are keeping them from living the life they want.
In our first session together, I will send some time really getting to know you and the challenges you're facing. I will take your lead and explore what it is you need from therapy. I believe a solid relationship with your therapist is key to growth and change, and I’m not here to tell you what you should be doing or could have done differently. I know how unhelpful that is. But I understand the parts you can’t put into words, the hard things, the guilt, and the anxiety you feel. My goal is for you to feel comfortable enough in therapy to co-create a plan for us to work through over the course of treatment.
My warmth, compassion, and empathy are my biggest strengths. I am a people person who finds it most rewarding to connect with others on a deeper level, and show up for those I care about. I don’t think I’d survive without the time I carve out for myself, even if that means screen time for my kids! I truly understand the importance of self care, and work well with individuals who are striving towards this. I know what I need to do to find balance (even if I don’t always do it) which is very relatable for my clients.
I believe that if we focus on our strengths rather than our deficits, we are more posed for success and happiness in life. I've been trained in the Strengths Model which is an evidence based practice.
I see each client through a trauma-informed lens, with the assumption that all adults have some sort of trauma in our history that has impacted our daily lives. I also have extensive training in this area, which include trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, Internal family systems, and narrative therapy. I can help you identify trauma and learn ways to cope.
By slowing down and learning to be in this present moment, we can quiet the mind and have the courage to truly be with ourselves, even in the most difficult times. I have been trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.
We all must face grief at some point in our lives. Whether it's the loss of a loved one, a pregnancy, or marriage, or even a transition into a new phase of life, I can provide the tools to get through this difficult time.
