Hi. My name is Amanda Jo! I'm honored you've taken the opportunity to read a little bit about me in order to determine if we might be a good fit to walk a part of life's journey together! I have over ten years of experience working in the field of mental health. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Saint Leo University and obtained my Masters in Social Work from Indiana University. I served in the United States Army and am acutely aware of the mental health and family issues specifically related to deployments as well as pre and post service. I have experience and knowledge related to birth-mothers and adoption. Furthermore, I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, middle aged and 'antiqued' populations who are struggling to manage stress, anxiety, depression, grief, mood disorders, relationship conflict and/or unresolved trauma.
Life is a beautiful, complex journey that requires community to navigate. I'd be honored to be a part of your circle!
I have approximately 30 years of experience in virtually all clinical settings. I began my career working in a juvenile penitentiary (referred to as a 'youth development center) and after almost 6 years, left that setting and moved on to new opportunities. Along the way, I worked with group homes, foster homes, substance abuse treatment programs, and even provided treatment in a sexual offender treatment program. In 2004 I went solely into private practice and currently operate two offices. I also provided on-site services to businesses that suffer a death or other disruptive event; I have provided over 170 of these services in four states during the last several years. While you don't need any faith to see me, I also offer Christian Counseling. Finally, I am a US Army veteran and understand the challenges and needs of veterans.
I operate under a practical approach that seeks to build on a person's strengths to achieve realistic, measurable goals. I utilize primarily cognitive behavioral therapy and reality therapy to help my clients achieve their goals and to live life more fully.
My passion is creating a safe, open, and non-judgmental space where you feel seen, heard, understood, and ready to explore life's challenges. I combine my clinical experiences with a genuine, compassionate relational style to help you uncover your inner strength and move towards deeper self-awareness, healing, and empowerment. I currently hold licenses as a LPC-s in Virginia and a LPCC in Kentucky. have been working in the mental health field since 2008 and I specialize in helping clients navigate and heal from trauma. I also help and encourage clients to strive to be more connected with and congruent to self: mind, body, and emotions.
