New to Grow
Hello! My name is SheNetra Alexander, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) with over nine years of experience providing therapy to adolescents and adults. I have extensive experience helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, stress management, substance use, and co-occurring mental health concerns. My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and solution-focused. I believe every person has strengths they can build upon, and my goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes. I tailor treatment to your unique needs by incorporating evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing, and person-centered techniques.
My first session is focused on creating a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their story. I begin by building rapport and getting to know the client beyond the concerns that brought them to therapy. I explore their current challenges, symptoms, strengths, support system, and personal goals while gathering relevant background information to better understand their experiences. I also discuss confidentiality, explain what clients can expect from the therapeutic process, and encourage them to ask questions. Together, we identify their primary concerns and begin developing realistic, achievable treatment goals that align with what they hope to accomplish in therapy. Before the session ends, I summarize what we’ve discussed, collaborate on next steps, and, when appropriate, introduce practical coping strategies or brief interventions that clients can begin using between sessions. My goal is for every client to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful that positive change is possible.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to build genuine rapport and create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being open and honest. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change. I also bring strong clinical experience, having worked with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health concerns, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing, and person-centered therapy, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals. In addition, I am an active listener who values collaboration. I strive to meet clients where they are, help them recognize their strengths, and empower them with practical tools they can use outside of therapy. My goal is to ensure every client feels heard, respected, supported, and encouraged throughout the therapeutic process.
I am best positioned to serve adults who are ready to better understand themselves, develop healthier coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, substance use, relationship challenges, grief, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, and co-occurring mental health conditions. I especially enjoy working with individuals who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about their next steps but are motivated to engage in the therapeutic process. Whether clients are seeking to improve their emotional well-being, strengthen relationships, recover from trauma, navigate major life changes, or overcome unhealthy patterns of thinking and behavior, I provide a compassionate, collaborative, and goal-oriented approach tailored to their unique needs. My goal is to empower clients to gain insight, build resilience, develop practical coping strategies, and make lasting changes that improve their overall well-being and quality of life.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my practice, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a structured, goal-oriented approach to help clients identify the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I work with clients to recognize unhelpful or distorted thinking patterns and guide them in challenging and reframing those thoughts into more balanced and realistic perspectives. I incorporate CBT through practical, skills-based interventions such as thought records, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral activation. I also assist clients in identifying triggers and patterns that contribute to emotional distress or unhealthy behaviors, including substance use, avoidance, or conflict escalation. In sessions, I support clients in developing coping strategies they can apply in real-life situations, such as grounding techniques, emotion regulation skills, and effective communication tools. I often assign between-session activities to reinforce learning and encourage application of skills outside of therapy. Overall, I use CBT to help clients build awareness, develop healthier thinking patterns, and make intentional behavioral changes that support their treatment goals and improve overall functioning.
Narrative
In my practice, I use Narrative Therapy to help clients separate themselves from their problems and explore how the stories they hold about their lives have been shaped by experiences, relationships, and broader systems. I support clients in identifying dominant narratives that may be limiting or unhelpful, such as beliefs about failure, trauma, identity, or relationship patterns. I use therapeutic conversations and guided questioning to help clients “re-author” their stories by highlighting strengths, resilience, and moments when the problem did not define them. This includes exploring alternative narratives that better reflect their values, capabilities, and lived experiences. In sessions, I often ask clients to externalize the problem (e.g., viewing anxiety, addiction, or anger as something they experience rather than who they are). This helps reduce shame and increase a sense of control and agency. I also help clients identify exceptions to the problem—times when they responded differently or coped effectively—and build on those experiences. Overall, I use Narrative Therapy to support clients in reshaping the meaning they assign to their experiences, strengthening identity, and developing a more empowered and preferred life story.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients identify their strengths, set meaningful goals, and focus on practical solutions rather than remaining stuck in problems. I encourage clients to recognize what is already working, build on past successes, and take small, achievable steps toward positive change. By reinforcing progress and empowering clients to use their existing strengths, I help them develop confidence and create lasting improvements in their daily lives.
