New to Grow
I have been working in the fields of psychology, social work, and therapy for close to 30 years. I am passionate about helping. I get great satisfaction from seeing clients learn, grow and lead happier lives. I am passionate about animals as well and am involved in dog rescue. I truly enjoy seeing people learn, grow, and become happier and more confident in their lives with improved relationships. Let's take this therapy journey together!
My approach is down-to-earth and collaborative. I don't tell you what to do—we work as a team toward wellness. I start with relationship building so we can get to know each other before delving into the hard work. Then we discuss your goals and create a plan to help you reach them.
I have a down-to-earth, non-judgmental style and treat everyone with respect. People tell me they feel comfortable and unjudged talking to me. I'm also direct—I pay attention to body language and non-verbal cues, and will address any anxiety or discomfort so we can work together to make the process feel safe.
Clients who are hesitant about starting or resuming therapy often find me to be laid back, accepting, and gentle. I work primarily with adult individuals and teenagers, though I have extensive experience with couples and families. It is important for clients to understand that therapy does involve some work on their end. It is best if a client comes to therapy highly motivated for change.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is a proven therapeutic model, backed by research and my own 20 years in the field. I see clients greatly benefit from this therapeutic approach for a variety of struggles including anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Compassion Focused
CFT is effective in helping clients identify their strengths, worth, and have compassion for themselves and others.
Couples Counseling
My degree is in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. I work with clients on striving to understand their partner's perspective, respond in a non-confrontational manner, building respect and the bond within the partnership.
Family Therapy
With families, I primarily use Structural Family therapy which focuses on strengthening the parental subsystem, developing clear roles, rules, and boundaries while understanding the child(ren)'s perspective and improving the bond and peace in the household.
Psychoeducation
Although understanding the problem does not necessarily translate into action, it is helpful to pair psychoeducation with one of the above therapies to guide a client in gaining insight into what might be contributing to the problem as well as understanding symptoms and what will help to alleviate them.
