It’s so common to feel lost in the mental health system — rushed appointments, feeling like just another number, or starting over with someone new every few months. If that’s been your experience, you’re not alone, and it doesn’t have to stay that way. I’m Jacki Veler, MSN, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, founder of NewHeart Mental Health and Wellness. With over 16 years of experience in psychiatric care, family practice, hospital units, and addiction recovery, I bring a unique whole-person perspective to every client I serve. My approach is grounded in the belief that true mental wellness comes from looking at the full picture — the biological, psychological, and lifestyle factors that shape how you feel. I don’t automatically reach for medication. Instead, we explore potential underlying contributors like sleep, nutrition, hormones, and daily habits first, while offering expert medication management when it’s the right fit for you. What matters most to me is creating a space where you feel truly heard and valued. My patients often share that they finally feel like a real person again. One said: “I love having sessions with Jackie — she listens really well and gives awesome suggestions. She really seems to care about us as people and our goals. She spends extra time with me when needed and makes sure my needs are met.” I’m here to partner with you — not to do things to you, but to work alongside you — so you can move from simply getting by to feeling stable, hopeful, and more in control of your life. You deserve care that sees the whole you. If you’re ready to take that next step, I’d be honored to walk with you.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During your first evaluation, which lasts about an hour, we review your biggest concerns, review your history of mental health and physical health treatments, and your history. This is part of a robust assessment of your mental health history. This allows us to build a solid foundation for your diagnosis and treatment plan. From there, we work with you to decide on the best path forward, whether it involves medication, therapy, lifestyle adjustments, or a combination of approaches.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strength is the integration of deep clinical expertise with a truly holistic perspective. Holding dual certifications as a PMHNP-BC and FNP-BC allows me to bridge the gap between physical health and mental wellness, ensuring every treatment plan considers the "whole person" rather than just a diagnosis. I specialize in evidence-based clinical psychopharmacology, but my approach is never clinical at the expense of compassion. My patients consistently share that they feel genuinely heard and validated—often for the first time in their healthcare journey. I don’t just aim for symptom reduction; I focus on achieving lasting mental clarity and helping you reclaim a sense of vitality and resilience. The goal is living your best life on your terms.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I specialize in working with individuals navigating complex mood disorders who are seeking a comprehensive, "whole-person" approach to their mental health. My ideal clients are often those who feel their concerns haven't been fully addressed by standard symptom management and are looking for a provider who prioritizes active listening and validation. Whether you are managing depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, I am best positioned to serve those who value evidence-based care that considers biological, psychological, and lifestyle factors. If your goal is to move toward lasting mental clarity and emotional resilience in a collaborative environment where you feel truly heard, we would be a great fit.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

How I use this in practice: Change is rarely a straight line, and it’s completely normal to feel a bit of a "tug-of-war" when you’re trying to move forward. I use Motivational Interviewing to help us explore that tension together without any pressure or judgment. Instead of me giving you a roadmap, we’ll work to uncover your own personal "why"—the values and strengths you already have—to build the steady confidence you need to make changes that actually stick.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

How I use this in practice: We often don’t realize how much our "inner critic" or old habits of thinking are running the show. I use CBT as a practical way to help you fact-check those automatic, stressful thoughts that leave you feeling stuck or overwhelmed. It’s not about just "thinking positive"; it's about learning to see things more clearly and accurately. In our sessions, we’ll build a real-world toolkit of coping skills—like stress-relief techniques and emotion tracking—so you can start making decisions that actually make you feel good again.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

How I use this in practice: If you’ve spent many nights staring at the ceiling or feeling anxious the moment your head hits the pillow, you know how exhausting that cycle can be. I use CBT-I to help you break the frustrating association between your bed and being wide awake. We’ll look at the specific habits and "sleep thoughts" that are keeping you up and use proven strategies to reset your body’s internal clock. My goal is to help you stop dreading the night and start getting the restful, restorative sleep you’ve been missing.
