Hi, I'm Chris, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S) with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field helping individuals with a wide range of emotional and life issues. I use evidence-based therapeutic strategies as well as a person-centered approach to individualize your needs, abilities and means to achieve your goals. If you are looking for an honest ally, who is able to offer hope while centering on achievable goals - In need of an empathetic ear but open to learning how to problem solve - wanting a better understanding of yourself, your thoughts and feelings; then we might be a good match. I work with individuals who have likely been struggling for many years, sometimes have more than one identified issue and are unsure of how to change how they feel, improve their relationships or see things getting better for themselves. Typically, core issues can be identified within the first few sessions along with a plan to manage them.
The first session will be focused on arriving at an understanding of what brings you to counseling and what you would like to get out of it. This is when we get a feel for each other; me understanding what you need and you sensing if I'm the one to help you with that.
Among my greatest strengths would be diagnostic acumen - in other words, being able to quickly and accurately gain an understanding of "what" is at hand and "why". Having spent years helping individuals struggling with a variety of crises has lent itself to this skill. But, I'd also like to say that humor is important. I like to take things into balance and not lose levity of an otherwise difficult or unpleasant situation. I'm sure there are times for us all, that humor is what helped get us through something.
I specialize in the Adult population; many of those I work with have been to counseling before but it's been years since they were actively involved, though I also have many people who this would be their first ever session. I enjoy that variety and cater my approach to each individual I speak with.
My approach is eclectic, making use of the core mechanisms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (identifying specific thoughts & beliefs) along with Person Centered Therapy (focusing on your unique experience). Discussions are insight driven, bringing to light a path for you; in our discussions, what you will bring forward will shed light on those areas of needed focus to bring about your desired change.
While individuals often seek counseling when there is a problem, I like to know what within your history has gone well; what your skills, interests, abilities, wishes and successes have been as well.
We each have a story to tell which is rich in experience and carries meaning in our personal journey; this is where we find the fuel and opportunity to achieve our wishes.
Regardless of if you are seeking counseling for a better understanding of yourself, needing an unbiased trained individual to hear you out without judgement or if your needing to make improvements and alleviate suffering, everyone wants to feel momentum in each of those endeavors.
