Hi, I’m Farah Southwell, a Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC) based in McDonough, GA. I've worked with multicultural individuals and families. I am fluent in Creole and familiar with French. Taking the first step toward therapy can feel both empowering and scary, and I'm glad you're here. I specialize in helping adolescents, adults and families navigate depression, anxiety, family conflict, and major life transitions. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative space. My approach relies on a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Treatment (SFBT) and Family Therapy, helping you identify negative thought patterns while developing healthy, lasting boundaries. I will teach conflict resolution, problem solving and communication skills. I became a therapist because I am deeply passionate about watching individuals reclaim their confidence and find peace in their daily lives. I believe that family can interact and work together in a functional way. If you're ready to start this journey, please reach out via GrowTherapy.com to schedule an appointment.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

As your therapist, I will provide you a safe and non-judgmental space. Stepping into therapy takes courage, and I want you to feel completely at ease. Our first session is an informal, collaborative conversation. We will focus on getting to know each other, discussing what brought you to therapy, and identifying what you hope to achieve. There is no pressure to share your entire life story on day one; you set the pace. It is also an opportunity for you to ask me questions to ensure I am the right fit for your journey.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

With over 30 years of experience, I know that pointing fingers rarely leads to lasting change. Instead of focusing on blame, we will look at how certain patterns function in your everyday life. I provide a warm, judgment-free space that respects your unique background and values. Together, we’ll work as a team, using your existing strengths to navigate challenges and build the life you want.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Do you often feel like you’re running on empty, giving everything to others but still feeling like it’s never quite enough? You don't have to carry that weight by yourself. I help young adults break free from the exhausting cycles of people-pleasing, relationship stress, and self-doubt. My ideal clients are reflective, motivated for change, and ready to swap overthinking for real balance. In our sessions, we will work collaboratively to mute your inner critic, set guilt-free boundaries, prioritize your own needs, and build a life rooted in genuine self-compassion.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We can change negative thoughts like, "I feel like a failure" or "I'm worried about the future" which are fueled by depression and anxiety by teaching you how to recognize the negative thoughts pattern. Then we will test to see if your thoughts are based on facts or beliefs. If the depression makes you avoid socializing or exercising, the method will break the cycle by deliberately engaging in activities that will improve your mood. Exercises will be assigned between sessions like journaling to write down your thoughts, feelings and actions.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I would ask, "What are your best hopes for our time together today?" I will treat you as the expert in your treatment process by thinking of moments when you were able to handle the situation or problem. If there are coping skills that helped, we can strengthen those skills in your routine.

Family Therapy

The family is the client. I will learn how the relationships, roles, rules and structure serves in the family. Build trust with all members of the family by listening and understanding each viewpoints. We will come to understand how the whole family contributed to the issue. I will teach communication skills or conflict resolution skills, we can also safely act out role playing scenarios with members.
