Hi there, I'm Kristen. I'm a marriage and family therapist, which means that I come at clients' problems as a product of each person's individual system and the others in their lives. Every issue has a cause, but whether we can identify that cause or not, we still have to find a way forward. I help clients determine for themselves what they want to do. I come at each problem from a biopsychosocial-spiritual viewpoint. This means that every issue we deal with is influenced by our biological health, our psychological well being, our social resources, and our spiritual connection to the world around us. That gives us four different ways to address our stressors and four different paths to utilize when needed. I'm biblically trained, so I can help clients with religious or spiritual abuse, or help you rely on your spirituality to identify coping skills that will work for you. Some of my clients are not interested in spirituality, so we don't include spiritual practices in their work. Others want to focus efforts on spiritual practices, so we rely heavily in that area for them. Each client is unique, and each treatment plan is different. I see clients individually, in couples, or families depending on the need and the focus of their treatment. I'm available Monday through Thursday and have sessions as late as 8 pm.

I am trained in multiple individual and systemic modalities, as well as Christian counseling and LGBTQ affirming therapies if desired, to better customize the therapy experience to my clients needs.

First session

The first session is a mix of introductions. I will explain and address any questions, make sure consent forms and all the appropriate HIPAA compliance is understood and agreed to, and address your expectations of me. You will help me understand what you want to work on and introduce me to your worldview by answering some questions I will have from a psychological, social, biological, and spiritual perspective.

Strengths

I find humor in everyday situations and can often identify patterns in people's lives. I believe that every small step is still a step in the right direction, and I believe in other's abilities to accomplish great things.

Ideal clients

Many of my clients have difficulty moving past events and finding joy in their lives. Their past holds them back, and they’re struggling to move into a new role and new life . I help them to identify the supports and resources to help them to find their joy and move towards their own happiness. Staying stuck is a choice. So is happiness.
