Helping You Navigate Life’s Challenges with Compassion, Understanding, and Support, Every Step of the Way.
I have experience working with a variety of clients including children and adults with a vast variety of mental health needs. I have helped clients through life transitions, adjustment issues, relationship issues, parenting, trauma, grief, abuse and more. I have experience providing individual, family, and group counseling services, as well as, crisis intervention, case management and care coordination. My goal as a counselor is to help people in their desire to close the gap between where they are right now and where they want to be in the future, with the support of individualized therapy sessions. I typically utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to help my clients focus on connecting thoughts, emotions and behaviors. I want to help people understand how thoughts, behaviors, and emotions relate and influence one another to restructure thinking in an attempt to develop healthier thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. I utilize motivational interviewing skills as well to help clients resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find motivation to change behaviors. I work from a strengths-based approach in which I focus on a client’s strengths, resiliency, and resourcefulness, and less on weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. I like starting off and focusing on a positive mindset to help clients change their worldview to one that is more positive and goal oriented. I aspire to utilize my experience to help make a valuable contribution to others through counseling services.
First session
My hope is that after your first session, you leave feeling comfortable, supported, and confident in taking the next steps in your counseling journey. I want you to have a clear understanding of the counseling process, including informed consent, confidentiality and its limits, expectations, and what our time together will look like. I believe having structure helps create a sense of comfort and consistency. Sessions may include checking in with your emotions, identifying and understanding your feelings, practicing gratitude, and discussing what feels most important to you that day. Together, we will explore your needs, establish meaningful goals, and identify practical skills and strategies that you can apply in your everyday life. Above all, I want you to leave your first session feeling that counseling is a collaborative process where your voice matters, your pace is respected, and you have a safe space to be yourself. My goal is for you to walk away not only feeling supported and understood, but also with a sense of direction, hope, and at least one helpful tool or skill to begin moving forward.
Strengths
I believe counseling should feel like a genuine conversation in a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space. I bring warmth, humor, compassion, and a down-to-earth personality to each session, helping clients feel comfortable being themselves. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to truly listen, allowing clients to feel heard, understood, and valued without fear of judgment. My approach is centered on meeting you where you are and allowing you to move at your own pace. I recognize that everyone's experiences, challenges, and healing journeys are different. While I provide empathy and encouragement, I also believe in the importance of honest, reality-based exploration and personal accountability. I strive to gently challenge unhelpful patterns, encourage self-reflection, and help clients recognize opportunities for meaningful change. I believe counseling doesn't always have to feel heavy or intimidating. Sometimes humor, authenticity, and a little laughter can help create connection, even when working through difficult experiences. My goal is to create a balance of compassion and honesty, offering a space where you feel supported, challenged when appropriate, and empowered to grow. Above all, I want you to feel that you are talking with a real person who genuinely cares about your story, respects your pace, and is willing to walk alongside you as you navigate life's challenges.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is motivated to make positive changes, invested in their personal growth, and open to exploring new perspectives. You don't have to have everything figured out, but having a willingness to learn, reflect, and actively participate in your healing journey is important. I enjoy working with individuals who are interested in setting goals, developing a deeper understanding of themselves, and building the tools needed to navigate life's challenges. I value clients who are open to honest conversations, willing to challenge themselves, and receptive to support and guidance along the way. Growth isn't always easy, and progress doesn't always happen in a straight line. What matters most is your willingness to show up, be authentic, and take steps toward becoming the person you want to be. You don't have to be perfect or have all the answers. You just have to be willing to start.
Origin story
My passion for counseling comes from fulfilling what I feel is my life's purpose as a helper and a healer, personal experiences and a deep desire to help others navigate life's challenges. Through my experiences working with the first responder and veteran communities, as well as my perspective as a spouse, I have gained a deeper appreciation for the unique challenges, sacrifices, and emotional demands faced by these individuals and their families. These experiences have shaped my approach to counseling and strengthened my commitment to providing a compassionate, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment. I believe everyone deserves a safe space to share their story, process difficult experiences, and find a path toward healing, resilience, and personal growth.
Ongoing work together
Progress in counseling looks different for everyone, and growth doesn't always happen in a straight line. I believe progress is reflected in the small, meaningful changes you begin to notice in your everyday life. You may find yourself better able to identify and express your emotions, manage difficult situations, set healthy boundaries, communicate your needs, and respond to challenges in healthier ways. Together, we will establish realistic, meaningful goals and regularly check in on your progress. I encourage self-reflection, personal accountability, and recognizing both the small victories and larger accomplishments along the way. Progress may also mean developing greater self-awareness, feeling more confident in your decisions, or learning to approach difficult experiences with new perspectives and practical coping skills. My hope is that you begin to recognize your own growth, feel more empowered to navigate life's challenges, and gain confidence in your ability to create positive, lasting change. Remember, progress isn't about perfection. It's about learning, growing, and moving forward at your own pace.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a type of counseling that helps us better understand how our thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected. Simply put, the way we think about a situation can influence how we feel and how we respond.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT, is a type of counseling that helps you better understand your emotions, manage difficult situations, and build healthier relationships. Simply put, DBT teaches practical skills to help you handle life's ups and downs without feeling so overwhelmed.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-Centered Therapy is a type of counseling that focuses on you as an individual, your experiences, your feelings, and what matters most to you. It is based on the belief that everyone has the ability to grow, heal, and make positive changes when they feel heard, understood, and supported.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-Informed Care is an approach to counseling that recognizes how difficult or overwhelming life experiences can affect the way we think, feel, behave, and connect with others. Trauma can look different for everyone, and no two people experience or process difficult situations in the same way. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, respected, and understood. Rather than focusing on "What's wrong with you?" trauma-informed care encourages us to explore "What happened to you?" and how those experiences may be affecting your life today.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Therapy is an approach to counseling that helps you slow down, become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, and focus on the present moment. Simply put, mindfulness is about learning to be present rather than getting caught up in worries about the future or difficult experiences from the past. Life can feel overwhelming at times, and it's easy to find ourselves going through the motions without recognizing how we are feeling or reacting. Mindfulness helps us take a step back, notice what is happening within ourselves, and respond to situations with greater awareness and intention rather than reacting automatically.
