Hi I'm Shakirra. I'm a firm believer that every person deserves to be heard and welcomed, regardless of culture or background. This belief is the cornerstone for my passion for counseling. I specialize in depression, anxiety, daily life stress race & LGBTQIA issues . I know asking for help isn't easy, so congratulations on taking the first step towards healing! My approach is warm, encouraging, and motivational. I can't wait to work with you!
In our first session I introduce myself and describe the therapeutic process. I explain the limits of confidentiality and discuss our expectations of therapy.
My biggest strengths in therapy are my compassion, humor, and ability to be candid yet gentle with the people I work with.
My Ideal client is someone who is ready to life changes or in the early stages of considering life transitions. They are client that appreciate being challenged and are willing to work collaboratively to address their concerns. I historically have worked with queer, Black women or POC between the ages of 15-35. This also includes students, people just entering their career or starting a family.

I believe how we think impacts how we engage with and experience the world around us. Our thoughts have a profound impact on how we feel as well. My approach to CBT is culturally responsive to whomever is sitting across and I have fond it to be success in various setting and client demographics.
