Hi, my name is Jennifer Bargerhuff and I was a small business owner of over 20 years who returned to college to continue in the path of helping others through Mental Health Counseling. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Counseling from Trinity College of Florida and my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University and am currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselorin the State of Florida.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first counseling session serves as an essential foundation where you will handle necessary administrative paperwork and establish the limits of confidentiality. During this time, I will learn about your background and presenting problem concerns to begin collaboratively defining your personal goals for therapy. Ultimately, this initial meeting is a safe space designed to build rapport and determine if the therapeutic partnership is the right fit for your needs.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Finding ways to flourish when life gets difficult isn't always easy on your own. I know because I've been there. It was a wise counselor that helped me through difficult times by offering me hope, patience, and kindness. Now, after years of life experience and beginning education in mental health counseling, I hope to help others in their pursuit of happiness.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

She is skilled in a wide range of therapeutic approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotional Intelligence strategies. Jennifer emphasizes the importance of healthy boundaries to foster meaningful relationships and lasting change. Her areas of expertise include: Women’s Mental Health Concerns, Life Transitions, Disordered eating or drinking, Pre‑Marital Counseling (certified in SYMBIS, Prepare/Enrich), Trauma Counseling, Grief Counseling, Anxiety Disorder, and Depression. Jennifer integrates evidence‑based practices into her treatment planning and, upon request, offers faith‑based counseling to support clients seeking a spiritual perspective in their healing journey.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

Attachment theory's principal aim is to identify the relationship style that each person has had with their childhood caregiver or parent. It explains the rules, concepts, and emotions that influence the quality of relationships. Although we can not change the beginning, we can use it to write a different end. Common questions: • Am I worthy of being loved? • Are others reliable and trustworthy? Looking back to how we are attached to our childhood caregivers can reflect on how we seek closeness in present relationships. The goal is to form loving and satisfying relationships that last long-term.

Christian Counseling

When there is greater understanding of self, one has more freedom to determine the next actions they will take. Whether a person is motivated by their faith or by the desire for more life satisfaction, human flourishing has been a focal point of happiness for centuries. Through spiritual beliefs a Christian counselor can use the fruit of the Spirit and other biblical values to approach the ebbs and flows of life. Interestingly, both psychologically and theologically confront all people with deep questions like • Who am I? • Why am I like this? • What is the answer? • How will I change?

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by interrogating and uprooting negative or irrational beliefs. Considered a solutions-oriented form of talk therapy, CBT rests on the idea that thoughts and perceptions influence behavior. • Thoughts • Behaviors • Feelings

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In my practice, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) serves as a compassionate, structured framework to help clients manage intense emotions, navigate interpersonal conflicts, and break patterns of self-destructive behavior. The core philosophy of DBT centers on the "dialectical" balance between acceptance and change: validating a client's current emotional reality while simultaneously challenging them to learn more adaptive ways of responding to distress. I integrate DBT into treatment by focusing on its four core skill modules: Mindfulness Distress Tolerance Emotion Regulation Interpersonal Effectiveness

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused Therapy (SBF) is a method of talk therapy that allows the client to think through solutions to a problem by asking goal-oriented questions. Since the client is the expert in their Life, they usually have the solutions but just need some help thinking through the situation. Goal-oriented talk is preferred to problem-oriented talk. • Focusing on the Positive • Find the exceptions • Small changes lead to larger changes
