I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a strong background in counseling, education, and advocacy. Holding a Master of Education in Counseling and Development from Lamar University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas A&M Commerce, I have spent over 15 years helping individuals navigate life's challenges and develop the tools they need to thrive. My experience includes counseling children, adolescents, and adults, as well as leading mental health initiatives in schools and communities. I provide individual, family, and group therapy. My approach is rooted in creating a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. I work collaboratively with clients to help them uncover unhelpful patterns, explore their emotions, and build the skills needed to make lasting changes in their lives. The impact of my work can be seen in the progress made by students overcoming behavioral challenges, parents finding relief from stress, and families strengthening their relationships. I am passionate about fostering personal growth, emotional well-being, and positive change, both in the counseling room and within the communities I serve. With my diverse background, including experience as a counselor, educator, and coach, I understand the importance of mental health in all areas of life. I am committed to helping my clients overcome obstacles, achieve their goals, and build a brighter future.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, you can expect a welcoming, non-judgmental, and safe space where you are encouraged to share your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. My approach is built on creating trust and establishing a strong therapeutic relationship, so the first session is all about laying the foundation for that.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider are my ability to build trusting relationships, my culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach, my extensive experience working with children, families, and educational systems, and my commitment to empowering clients to make meaningful, lasting changes. I combine expertise, compassion, and a deep understanding of human behavior to provide effective, holistic care tailored to the unique needs of each individual and family.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with and am particularly well-positioned to serve children, adolescents, parents, educators, athletes (all levels), young adults and adults who are seeking mental health support, guidance through life transitions, or assistance in improving their emotional well-being. My background in education, counseling, and community advocacy gives me a unique ability to address the challenges people face across all stages of life while fostering positive change and growth.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a widely used therapeutic approach that focuses on helping individuals identify and change negative or unhelpful patterns of thought and behavior. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and by changing maladaptive thoughts, we can also change behaviors and improve emotional well-being. I might integrate CBT techniques into interactions: Cognitive Restructuring: I can help identify distorted or unhelpful thinking patterns (such as catastrophizing, overgeneralization, or black-and-white thinking) and suggest more balanced or realistic ways of thinking. Behavioral Activation: If a user is feeling depressed or stuck, I might encourage them to engage in specific activities or small, manageable goals that can lead to positive reinforcement and mood improvement, which is a core part of CBT. Problem-Solving: I can walk through a structured process of breaking down a problem into smaller parts and helping the individual develop concrete steps for addressing it. Mindfulness and Awareness: I might suggest mindfulness techniques or encourage a person to focus on the present moment, which is often integrated into modern adaptations of CBT (like Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, or MBCT). Homework Assignments: While I can't provide formal assignments like a therapist would, I could suggest activities or thought records that help reinforce cognitive restructuring or behavioral changes. Psychoeducation: I can educate about the principles of CBT, how thoughts influence feelings and behaviors, and how individuals can develop strategies to manage challenges in their lives. For example, if someone is struggling with anxiety, I might explain how anxiety is often fueled by irrational thoughts, like expecting the worst-case scenario. I could help reframe that by encouraging them to challenge those thoughts with more balanced perspectives and identify small, manageable steps to reduce their anxiety.
