Hi I'm Shawn! As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I'm warm, funny, compassionate, and a genuine therapist who believes you should be able to feel comfortable being your authentic self in therapy. I bring a gentle yet direct approach to our work- I'll listen without judgment, while also helping you recognize patterns, challenge what may be holding you back, and move toward the life you want.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. We'll talk about what you'd like to be different, and what you hope to get out of our work together. I'll ask questions about your history, relationships, and current challenges, but there's no expectation that you have everything figured out or know exactly where to begin.
One of the strengths I bring to therapy is the ability to create a space where clients feel safe, heard and understood while also being honest and direct when it's needed. I'm gentle and compassionate in my approach, but I don't shy away from difficult conversations. I can help clients look at patterns, behaviors, and beliefs that may be keeping them stuck, while doing so in a way that feels supportive rather than judgmental. I bring warmth, empathy, authenticity, and curiosity into each session.
My ideal clients are adults navigating transitions, relationships, and the challenges that come with figuring out what they want for themselves. I enjoy working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, difficulty making decisions, communication difficulties, self-esteem, boundaries, people-pleasing, relationship patterns, career changes and life changes. I work well with clients who are ready to understand themselves more deeply, recognize patterns that may be keeping them stuck.
I use a strengths-based approach that focuses not only on the challenges you're experiencing, but also on the strengths, resources, and resilience you already have.
I use a solution focused approach that helps you identify where you want to go and the steps that can help you get there. Rather than spending all of our time focusing on what's wrong, we'll explore what is already working, identify your strengths, and resources, and look for practical ways to create change.
I use CBT to help you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we'll identify patterns of thinking that may be contributing to anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, or other challenges and work toward developing healthier, more balanced perspective.
