Heather Hutter

LCSW (she/her)19 years of experience

Hi! I'm Heather, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who offers virtual sessions in the state of Pennsylvania. I am passionate about mental health, self-care and helping individuals recognize their own strengths. As an empathetic clinician, I believe that everyone deserves to feel safe and supported. I stive to provide a space where individuals feel heard and understood. My therapeutic approach is rooted in strength based, trauma informed practices, helping individuals find the confidence to navigate life's challenges.

First session

Whether it is your first time exploring therapy or you have utilized therapy as a tool in the past, showing up for yourself is the first step, so be proud of yourself! Not every therapist is a good fit for everyone, so getting to know each other during that first session is key . We will explore things like what brought you to therapy, as well as your goals and/or expectations for sessions. If you don't know what goals you want to work on-that's ok! We will work together to create goals that will enable you to be able to build new skills and work towards feeling more confident in yourself and abilities. Don't let the word goal scare you! It's not meant to be a finish line to conquer, but as a tool to help cultivate self growth.

Strengths

In my practice I strive to cultivate a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where individuals feel comfortable being themselves. I focus on strength based approaches to help individuals identify their own strength, build upon their own resilience and provide tools to aid in the growth of self confidence. My goal is to meet each individual where they are and walk along side them through life's challenges. My therapeutic style is compassionate and collaborative, emphasizing self empowerment and growth. Through evidenced-based approaches I help individuals transform challenging emotional patterns and build meaningful and authentic connections with themselves and others.

Ideal clients

I have experience working with individuals that are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma and major life transitions. I utilize trauma informed and strength based therapeutic approaches help individuals that are navigating challenges like self-worth, communication difficulties, isolation and grief and loss, to name a few. Being open to goal setting is an important part of the therapeutic framework that can help aid in growth within and outside of sessions. I strive to cultivate a sense of safety and understanding within session by providing an informal, yet professional setting with realistic skill building, validation and accountability.

Treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I utilize DBT therapy to help individuals identify and accept intense emotions, while also learning simple, yet practical skills to help manage those emotions and change behavior that is not useful. The skills and practices seem simple, but when applied can be very effective.

Strength-Based

I utilize strength based approaches to aid individuals with focusing on the power they already hold, which has helped them overcome past life challenges. I listen to individuals and help them reframe situations and derive strength from them. Focusing on an individuals strengths and what they can do leads to empowerment.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma informed care practices are important to my practice as it allows individuals to feel safe and understand. This type of treatment focuses on safety, trust, collaboration and empowerment.
