Hi! My name is Shikira. I’m a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner with a doctorate degree in nursing practice. I’m originally from Ohio. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, sports, travel, community service activities, and my beloved fur babies. If you are looking for a provider who actually listens and cares about their clients, then look no further. I would love to partner with you on your journey towards healing and wellness. My experience is in medical/surgical nursing, brief counseling, and adult and adolescent mental health care. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential treatment settings throughout my 10 + years in healthcare. I believe my clients, families, and I are a team. Using evidence-based guidelines, I will help you achieve optimal mental health. While medications are helpful in many cases, I don’t believe in just “pushing pills” on to people. I prefer a holistic approach to help you thrive. With me, you will have a compassionate caregiver who truly wants to see you grow! I look forward to working with you soon.
During your first appointment I will ask a lot of questions about your complete health history, current symptoms, and demographic information. We will also discuss treatment options, referral options (if needed), a safety plan (if needed), and a treatment plan.
I implement a comprehensive health history and utilize questions from the PHQ-, Rapid Mood Screener, ADHD-rs, Hamilton Anxiety Scale, and VADRS to help identify a diagnosis. **PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO RESTRICTIONS IN GA AND NC, I DO NOT PRESCRIBE ADHD STIMULANTS.**
My biggest strength is being a well-rounded professional with lots of experience. This helps identify problems and solutions quicker.
Primarily adults, but I have experience with all age groups and treat clients ages 14 and up. *Please note: I can't prescribe class 2 ADHD stimulants at this time due to restrictions in Georgia prescribing laws.

Shakira is such a great provider! Seeing a provider can be nerve wrecking however she makes me feel seen , empowered, and heard! Her warm nature also puts me at ease to be open and honest.

I'm a much more functional person since working with Dr. Woods for the last few years!! She listens and makes me feel understood and like she cares about me as a whole person (rather than a list of meds/symptoms like others I've worked with), and she makes me feel safe knowing she does her research and won't give me things that shouldn't go together (like some previous doctors). I'm a kind of complex case and she's found a balance of meds that improves my quality of life!
