Lindsey Peters
Hello! My name is Lindsey Peters. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 12 years of experience providing outpatient mental health services. I am EMDR certified and specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and personality disorders. I believe therapy should be a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. My approach is individualized to each person’s needs, with a focus on building trust, developing healthy coping skills, processing difficult experiences, and creating meaningful, lasting change. I am passionate about helping clients better understand themselves, overcome challenges, and work toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.
First session
My first session will be about building rapport and a relationship. I want to learn about you, what beings you to therapy and what you hope to get out of our sessions. I will go through our informed consent as well as discuss what our session will look like, confidentiality and collaborate with you on your goals.
Strengths
I really like to bring a safe environment to my clients where they can feel comfortable and be open without judgement. I like to help my clients process through what they are going through and assist them in problem solving, coping and growth.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are the ones that are open and ready to grow. They are coming in for a safe space to help them process through difficult times. I want them to learn how to give themselves grace, recognize maladaptive behaviors as well as and being able to recognize the progress they are making, no matter how small. Therapy’s is an individualized journey and I am here to help and support you and guide you through your journey.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT can help you process through congestive distortions and restructure those thoughts. In CBT we will focus on challenging thoughts and reframing, behavioral activation, relaxation and coping techniques as well as problem solving and exposure.
EMDR
EMDR will begin with history taking and treatment planning. We will then do preparation by learning coping and grounding techniques. You will then select a target memory and identify its core components including the negative belief about yourself as well as the desired positive belief. Next will be the desensitization stage where you will focus on that distressing memory while I use bilateral stimulation (example, side to side eye movements). We will then install that positive belief and do a mental scan for your body from head to toe to notice any remaining physical tension or distress.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivation interviewing utilizes open ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening and summarizing. It helps you understand the conflict of wanting to change and wanting to stay the same. As a professional it is my job to listen rather than lecture.
