Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience in hospital, inpatient, and residential levels of care. I strive am passionate about offering a non-judgmental, direct, and compassionate approach to aid clients in building resiliency and addressing their concerns in a safe and productive manner. I have experience with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, psychosis, and mood disorders. I have completed both my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Auburn University. My experience in inpatient hospitalization and residential care has given me the skills and knowledge to help clients navigate severe mental health concerns. I use an integrative approach along with other techniques like reality therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
In the first session, clients can expect to walk through their goals, their concerns, and how they would like to work together with me to reach those goals. Other than therapeutic concerns, I genuinely enjoy getting to know my clients and who they are as people, so I may ask some other questions outside of therapy-specific questions. I think it may be important for clients to know that I am direct in my approach when doing therapy. I primarily work from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) skills and often focus on acceptance and commitment (ACT) approaches, so that contributes to my style and thought processing when working towards goals. I value input from clients, as I do want to hear their feedback and their perspective on our work together so that I can adjust to help meet their goals.
As someone who was raised by U.S. immigrants, I understand and can empathize with the value and importance of an individual's entire experience, including family dynamics, community, and culture. I also feel that a strength of mine is being personable along with professional with my clients - I enjoy getting to know my clients as individuals outside of the concerns that bring them to therapy.
I feel that I work best with clients whom value the relationship and are willing to be challenged in their therapeutic journey. The therapeutic relationship is a large determinant of success in therapy, and I value working with clients whom are willing to be open and vulnerable in the process. I feel I work best with clients whom are also willing to give their own feedback if they are feeling are feeling frustrated, stuck, or nervous, as my job is to work WITH them and all that comes up in the process. I try my absolute best to be my authentic self, so I enjoy the comfortability of having casual conversations, sarcasm, chit-chatting, and talking about lighter topics, as well - I strive to be professional as well as personable to my clients. I have worked with clients navigating life changes (divorce, college graduation, college acceptance, job changes, etc), as well as personal changes (relationship changes, changing personal goals, family shifts).
I utilize acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to assist clients with navigating their present reality through values-focused choices and decisions.
I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to assist clients with identifying patterns between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to assit with identifying healthy coping strategies and changes to help with positive momentum towards goals.
