Rhode Desauguste
I’m Rhode Desauguste, board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC), founder of Calm Horizon Integrative Psychiatry. My passion lies in supporting adolescents, adults, and older adults on their mental health journeys. I believe that everyone deserves to feel understood and empowered, and I’m here to help make that happen. In my practice, we provide integrative, evidence-based psychiatric care for individuals with anxiety, mood disorders, trauma-related challenges, or neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism spectrum differences. To me, good mental health care starts with trust, compassion, and collaboration. I take a holistic approach when treating a client because I believe in meeting each person where they are; every client’s experience, challenges, and goals are different. I’m also well-versed in clinical and research evidence about emotional well-being, lifestyle, medical history, relationships, and daily stressors rather than just symptoms. I want to see the big picture so we can make a treatment plan that seems practical, personalized, and sustainable. When medication is a component of treatment, I emphasize thoughtful prescribing, education, and shared decision-making. I want you to feel informed and understand both the benefits and the reasoning behind each recommendation. And I also like the ability to integrate tangible coping skills, therapy-informed conversations, and wellness practices that lead to long-term stability and resilience. My job is to help facilitate your own process of insight, confidence, and tools to take action for change that is meaningful and lasting. Using a secure HIPAA-compliant platform, I offer telehealth visits for individuals throughout North Carolina and Florida.
First session
The initial visit will be an open and broad first contact that addresses your concerns, history and care goals. This is your session in which we learn about yourself, what drew you into it, any history of symptoms and a history of treatment. By means of some probing questions about what’s happening to your emotional, mental and physical health, what targets do you want to meet in treatment, we will start to recognize your patterns, and stressors, and strengths of yours that can guide your care. It is a low stress and informal conversation on an ongoing basis when you can ask and answer questions, and be comfortable sharing at your own pace. Together, we begin to construct a plan based on your concrete scenario, and the evidence of reality. By the end of the session you may have greater insights into your specific symptoms, an initial treatment pathway tailored to your needs and actionable next steps. This might mean medication, therapy assistance, support, lifestyle ideas, or other resources, depending on what you’re working towards. It’s a very much collaborative conversation, and the dialogue is really focused on getting you to open up that should help you feel comfortable, informed and hopeful about your path forward.
Strengths
A core strength of our model is to bring about whole-person care and the best, person-centered care by integrating both evidence-based medication treatment and a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). We aim to support clients in understanding thoughts, emotions, and patterns and develop practical ways of overcoming barriers. We are known for being attentive, collaborative, and results-oriented, especially in terms of long-term wellness.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are teens and adults who may have spent years feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or stuck. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma-related symptoms, or challenges related to neurodivergence. They are looking for a provider who listens carefully, takes time to understand the full picture, and combines evidence-based medication management with practical strategies that support long-term well-being.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I practice CBT which is an evidence-based therapy that I am used to. Cognitive behavioural therapy is effective for anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, and life transitions. In my profession I implement techniques of cognitive restructuring, behavioural activation, and practical coping skills to manage the symptoms and enhance functional skills. My approach is collaborative and goal-orientated, tailoring care for each client while integrating psychoeducation and culturally responsive practices to instill lasting resilience.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
This mindfulness-based, research-supported strategy will help you work towards a healthier relationship with your thoughts and emotions rather than struggling to fight them. ACT focuses on allowing painful feelings and still taking meaningful steps to live the life that you want. We apply mindfulness and emotional acceptance in our practice. Then as the tools of values clarification and grounding in work, you feel more flexible and deliberate in your daily life. Sometimes I combine ACT with CBT and, if appropriate, medication management. This approach is very effective with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma-related symptoms and ongoing life stress. My intention is to make you feel less stuck, more present, and more connected to what matters most to you.
