Carrie-Anne Keane

PMHNP (she/her)3 years of experience

Have you ever left an appointment feeling like you told your whole story, but somehow the pieces still did not come together? Maybe treatment has helped, but not as much as you hoped. Maybe you have been given several diagnoses over the years. Or maybe you are doing well and simply want a provider who will take the time to understand you before making changes. I’m Carrie-Anne Keane, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 20 years in healthcare. I believe good psychiatric care starts with understanding the person, not just the diagnosis. Your brain is part of your body, so mental health does not happen in a vacuum. Sleep, stress, hormones, medical conditions, medications, nutrition, and daily life can all affect how you feel. Sometimes the answer is straightforward. Sometimes we need to look a little closer. Either way, you should not have to figure it out alone.

First session

Your first visit is about understanding you, not rushing to a diagnosis. We will usually spend one or two 60-minute sessions looking at the full picture—what you have been diagnosed with before, what treatments have or have not helped, and what you are experiencing now. We will also talk about your medical and family history, along with everyday factors like sleep, nutrition, activity, work, stress, and routines. Sometimes those details help explain why you have been feeling the way you do. If something does not quite add up, we may look a little deeper. That could mean reviewing old records, using additional assessments, ordering labs, or working with your primary care provider or another specialist. And do not worry—you do not need to come in knowing your diagnosis or what treatment you want. That is what we will figure out together. I bring the clinical knowledge and training, but you are the expert on you. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, with a better understanding of what may be going on and clear next steps toward the kind of wellness you want for yourself.

Strengths

I care deeply about helping people feel understood, especially when they have spent a long time feeling confused or dismissed. That often means looking a little closer when something does not quite fit. Maybe you were given a diagnosis, but treatment never really helped. Maybe what looks like anxiety is actually ADHD, or maybe your body processes certain medications in a way that causes more side effects. My goal is to help you reach what meaningful recovery or wellness looks like for you. I draw on years of experience across different areas of healthcare, along with advanced training in integrative psychiatry, to help put the pieces together. When useful, that may include labs, genetic testing, or working with other specialists to better understand what may be affecting your mental health. I also want you to feel confident speaking up about your care. Ask questions. Share your concerns. Tell me when something does not feel right. I am a teacher at heart, so I will explain what I am thinking, why I am recommending something, and what your options are in plain language so we can make decisions together.

Ideal clients

I work with adults 18+ from all walks of life. I believe every patient deserves empathetic, respectful, individualized care regardless of race, gender, sexuality, neurodiversity, or background. We will likely work well together if you like to take an active role in your care, ask questions, share concerns, and make decisions with your provider. Maybe treatment has helped, but not enough. Maybe you have been given different diagnoses over the years and still feel like something is missing. Or maybe you are doing well and simply want thoughtful medication management without changing what already works. You do not need to be interested in integrative care to work with me. But if you want to look beyond medication alone and better understand what may be affecting your mental health, we can explore those options together.

Treatment methods

Integrative

I prefer to combine evidence-based psychiatric care with integrative options based on your needs. So, depending on what is going on, we may look at sleep, stress, nutrition, medical conditions, hormones, lifestyle, and other things that may be affecting how you feel. In some cases, we may also use lab testing or genetic testing to learn more about how your body processes medications or to look for other possible reasons for your symptoms. My goal is to help you understand your options, why we are considering them, and what choices may make the most sense for you.

Supportive

Supportive therapy is part of many of our visits. We may talk through current stressors, patterns that are keeping you stuck, ways to cope, or practical strategies you can try between appointments. My goal is to help you better understand what you are experiencing and leave with tools you can actually use in everyday life.
