I'm Jakira Miller-Eason, MS, LCMHC, LCASA, a trauma-focused therapist who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I specialize in helping individuals heal from complex trauma, childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My approach is warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental, combining evidence-based practices with genuine connection. I understand that seeking therapy can feel overwhelming, and I strive to create a space where clients feel safe, heard, and valued. Together, we work to identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and build resilience.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy. I'll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, strengths, support systems, and goals for treatment. This helps me gain a better understanding of your experiences and how I can best support you. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share any concerns you may have about therapy, and determine whether I am a good fit for your needs. There is no pressure to share everything at once. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we'll begin identifying goals for therapy and discuss a plan for moving forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a genuine, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship, and I strive to ensure that every client feels heard, respected, and understood. I bring a trauma-informed perspective to my work, recognizing how past experiences can shape current thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I help clients understand the bigger picture and develop practical tools that support long-term healing and growth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve children, adolescents, adults, and families who are navigating the effects of trauma, life transitions, emotional stress, and relationship challenges. Many of the clients I work with feel overwhelmed by past experiences, struggling with difficult emotions, or trying to make sense of patterns that continue to impact their daily lives. I have extensive experience working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma, childhood trauma, childhood adversity, family conflict, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, behavioral concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, and substance use challenges. I also work with clients who are struggling with relationship issues, difficulty setting boundaries, adjusting to major life changes, and developing healthier ways to cope with stress and adversity. My ideal clients do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Some come to therapy with clear goals, while others simply know they want things to feel different. I enjoy working with clients who are open to self-exploration, willing to learn new coping skills, and interested in understanding how their experiences have shaped their current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

My treatment methods

Trauma-Focused CBT

I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers work through difficult or traumatic experiences in a safe and supportive way. This approach helps clients understand how trauma can affect their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships. In sessions, I help clients learn healthy coping skills to manage difficult emotions, reduce anxiety, and improve their sense of safety and confidence. We work on identifying and expressing feelings, developing positive ways to handle stress, and building skills to challenge unhelpful thoughts that may have developed after a traumatic experience.

EMDR

I use EMDR to help clients heal from difficult life experiences, trauma, and distressing memories that continue to affect them in the present. Sometimes experiences from the past can leave people feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, fearful, or disconnected, even long after the event has ended. In my practice, I first focus on building trust and helping clients develop coping skills so they feel prepared and supported throughout the process. Once a client feels ready, we identify memories, experiences, or situations that continue to cause distress. Using guided techniques that help the brain process these experiences in a new way, clients are able to work through painful memories without having to relive every detail.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Often, the way we think about a situation can influence how we feel and respond to it. In my practice, I help clients identify patterns of thinking that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or other challenges. Together, we explore whether these thoughts are helpful, accurate, and supportive of the client's goals. Clients learn practical skills to approach situations differently, manage difficult emotions, and respond to challenges in healthier ways.
