David Geonetta
My main focus is adults who can meet via teletherapy (with voice and video). I'm a career level, experienced therapist in his mid-50s. I understand the challenge or difficulty accompanying your initial steps into therapy, if you are new to therapy. Perseverance is probably the most important thing when it comes to therapy. If you can bring your honestly felt feelings about the dilemmas or problems you're having in your life or relationships, that is all we really need.
First session
I'm most likely going to be asking you some questions that can help break the ice; mainly, to help us explore your issues and concerns and, most importantly, how you believe therapy can help you.
Strengths
Genuine depth, human empathy and compassion. Also- probably- I'm not terribly punctual. If I don't have another booking in the following hour, my sessions often "run over" the time limit.
Ideal clients
My skill set and client focus is probably a good native fit for adults, early, mid or later years- including adults navigating through life- transitions. I have what I think of as a reasonable level of empathy, understanding, openness to different experiences and a healthy curiosity about the human condition. I'm all about discovering and exploring what motivates you and how to help you have more of that, whatever it may be.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I find client-centered helpful, universally, for every client. My tool kit includes CBT, DBT, REBT, and even EMDR, where that is helpful. Modalities are individualized in accordance with each client's goals or needs.
