Hi there! My name is Tameka Woods and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for the states of Georgia and Nevada. I graduated from Valdosta State University in 2007, and have been practicing as a therapist since then. I have worked with children, families, couples, and individuals through office, home visits and now telehealth. My clientele consists of individuals that struggle with trauma, addiction, military challenges/veterans, work related stress, medical complications, everyday life challenges and family issues.
In our first session, we will complete the initial clinical assessment. That is where we will discuss family history, background information and talk more about the presenting issue. I will also work on building rapport and working to understand the clients needs, while discussing possible diagnoses and symptoms. The client can also expect to discuss the treatment plan and the techniques that we will be utilizing during sessions.
As a therapist, for the past 18 years, I am very confident in my ability to connect with clients in order to earn their trust. This is very important in building rapport between therapist and client. This aspect of mental health treatment has allowed me to assist clients in opening up and getting to the root of their problems in order to move towards the healing phase.
As a therapist, I really enjoy working with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, anger and other mental health issues. I assist in exploring and processing their issues, as well as developing coping skills to work through those issues. I also assist in decreasing symptoms of mental health issues.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your behavior, and develop strategies for positive change. I do not see myself as “all knowing”, but I collaborate with the client to bring about the client’s desired outcomes and change. I also utilize evidence-based techniques to help clients develop coping skills, improve self-esteem, and achieve greater success in all areas of of their lives.
I work with individuals, couples, elderly, teenagers, LGBTQ community, and the military population. I treat a wide variety of diagnosis including, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, trauma, stress, anger issues, postpartum depression, PMDD, panic attacks, as well as many other issues.
