Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I've been incorporating CBT into counseling and mental health treatment since completing graduate school in 2006. I work with people on identifying unhelpful thoughts and behaviors and replacing them with thoughts and behaviors that are more supportive for personal goals for growth.
Psychodynamic
Aspects of psychodynamic are incorporated into sessions, when appropriate, primarily when exploring relationship themes in an individual's past and present.
Trauma-Informed Care
I take a trauma-informed care approach to ensure that past trauma is identified, addressed, and kept in mind when moving forward. My goal is to help prevent trauma from interfering with an individual day-to-day life.
Gender-affirming therapy
I strongly believe in affirming all genders and will always use the correct pronouns and name used by each individual. I have prioritized much of my continuing education on gender-affirming care to ensure individuals I work with feel supported and safe when working with me in counseling.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Individuals I work with are people first, always. My approach is to validate and normalize "human moments" that we all have. My goal is for people to feel like a respected person and not a diagnosis.
