Hi all. My name is Deidre and I have been a social worker and therapist for 12 years. I have worked primarily with adults in crisis management roles but love change-based therapy and watching real, tangible benefits bloom when motivated individuals want a better life for themselves and their most important relationships. Often, people come to therapy when something is going wrong in their lives. This is a great place to start, and my hope is that by working together, we can identify the underlying reason for issues you're experiencing and learn to apply them more broadly, so you always have tools to reach for when problems inevitably arise. I want you to have the confidence in knowing that you have the capacity to change and grow and it's 100% possible live a happier, more fulfilling life.
Our first session will be led by you and by me. You choose what to tell me. A little or a lot. My support looks like consolidating what you've told me into short-term and long-term goals, so we have a direction in which to start working. There is no expectation for our first session other than to get a sense of what you want to work on and how you hope to get there.
My greatest strength is thinking creatively. There are many avenues we can take and I'm not afraid to support you through alternative ways of reaching goals, guided by your comfort with the work. I'm always willing to start over if a method isn't working and I don't believe in a finish line, so you'll have no pressure from me to move through things any faster than you are able. As long as we're keeping an open dialogue, we can move in whichever direction is most helpful.
My dream client is someone who is not afraid to try new techniques, that have the capacity to be honest with themselves and me, and who trust that it is safe to be vulnerable in our sessions. Our problems are often deeply rooted, and they didn't pop up overnight. It takes time to dig through all those roots and sometimes we may feel we are experiencing setbacks, but consistency is the key and sticking with hard things ultimately grants us freedom.
I find a lot of value in CBT with clients who find themselves jumping to actions that negatively affect their relationships and want to help understand why they act as they do and how to change this in order to change their lives and relationships with others.
Practicing mindfulness in small moments spills out into broader parts of our lives, changing the way we see our environment, shifting our focus, and modifying the lens through which we view everything.
Short term, action oriented, and change focused therapy is best addressed using motivational interviewing, which forces us to face problems in our lives and accept how our choices benefit or hinder our growth.
