My name is Krishawnda but I also go by Shawnda. I’ve been a psychiatric nurse practitioner since 2020. I graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2010 with my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. I received my Master’s of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University in 2020. All my nursing career I’ve worked in psychiatry. I’ve always known it was what I wanted to do and I continue to have a passion for it to this day.
The initial assessment usually takes 30-60 minutes long. We review your physical and mental health histories and determine a plan of action by the end of the appointment.
Access. My clients love that they have direct access to me via phone and text. Clients can contact me anytime. Messages are always monitored and responded to within 48 hours or less.
Through talk therapy I listen, give advice, and hold my clients accountable to goals they have set. I’m here to listen but also here to widen your perspective. Changing how the mind works doesn’t happen over night but I’m here to assist every step of the way.
I believe readiness to change is a huge aspect to one’s success through their mental health journey. I aim to identify one’s readiness and will meet them where they are, moving at a pace that’s comfortable but safe and effective for the client.
Marginalized groups face various issues that others do not. Even if I am not a part of that marginalized group, I strive to understand, empathize, advocate, and be an ally to people of various cultures.
