My name is Suzana , a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and the founder of True You Psychiatry. My goal is to create a space where you can speak openly, feel truly heard, and take an active role in your care. My commitment to mental health is personal. My own experiences with adversity, therapy, and personal growth have shaped who I am and how I care for others. I understand how vulnerable it can feel to ask for help and how meaningful it is to find someone who listens without judgment. Those experiences remind me to approach each person with curiosity, compassion, and respect for a story that is uniquely their own. My primary focus is medication management, with supportive talk therapy and attention to sleep, lifestyle, and overall well-being woven into our visits. We’ll talk through your options, make room for your concerns, and build a treatment plan together that fits your needs and goals. I work with adults of all ages, with a particular passion for supporting young adults navigating life transitions, identity, relationships, and the pressures of becoming independent. I treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. I provide care in English and Spanish, and welcome and affirm LGBTQ+ individuals. You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. We can start wherever you are.

First session

Our first session is really about getting to know you—not just your symptoms or a diagnosis. I want to understand what brought you in, what you’ve been experiencing, what has shaped you, and most importantly, what you hope will be different moving forward. We’ll talk openly about your concerns, your history, your strengths, and the areas where you may be feeling stuck. We’ll also review any medications you’re currently taking, what you’ve tried in the past, what has or hasn’t worked, and any concerns you may have about medication. Together, we can explore whether medication may be helpful and discuss options that make sense for your symptoms, needs, and goals. I believe you should understand the “why” behind your treatment, so I’ll take the time to explain options, answer questions, and make decisions with you rather than for you.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to connect with people in a genuine and nonjudgmental way. I believe everyone deserves a space where they can be completely themselves—without fear of being judged, dismissed, or misunderstood. I strive to create that kind of environment in every session. I bring more than two decades of healthcare experience to my practice, but I also bring something that cannot be learned from a textbook: perspective. Life can be messy, complicated, and unpredictable, and I understand that people are so much more than a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. I approach each person with curiosity, compassion, honesty, and respect for their individual story. I am a good listener, but I am also an active and collaborative provider. I want my patients to understand what they are experiencing, feel comfortable asking questions, and have a voice in their treatment. I believe education and open communication are incredibly important, and I try to make conversations about mental health feel comfortable and approachable. Most importantly, I bring hope. I genuinely believe in people's capacity to heal, grow, and rediscover parts of themselves that may have been lost along the way. My role is not to tell someone who they should be, but to support them in becoming the healthiest and most authentic version of who they already are.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves, navigate change, and create a life that feels authentic to who they are. I genuinely enjoy working with people from all backgrounds and stages of life. I especially enjoy supporting people through transitional seasons—whether they are entering adulthood, navigating relationships or family expectations, exploring their identity, changing careers, experiencing loss, or simply realizing that the life they have been living may not fully reflect who they are. Many of us spend years being influenced by family, culture, relationships, or expectations about who we “should” be. I love helping clients quiet some of those outside voices, recognize their own strengths, and discover what feels right for them. My goal is to provide a warm, accepting, and judgment-free space where clients feel safe being completely themselves while building confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of identity.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I incorporate principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into medication management visits to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we may identify unhelpful thought patterns, explore how those thoughts influence mood or anxiety, and work on developing healthier, more balanced ways of responding. I also use CBT-based strategies to help clients build practical skills for managing anxiety, depression, stress, negative self-talk, and other everyday challenges. This may include reframing thoughts, developing coping strategies, setting realistic goals, or making small behavioral changes that support overall well-being.
