First session

Your first session is about you and not paperwork, and not a lecture. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what life looks like right now, and what you want to be different. I'll ask questions, you'll ask questions, and by the end we'll have a starting plan for working together. You'll leave with: Feeling actually heard — not rushed, not judged A clearer picture of what's going on, and what to focus on first A plan for next steps, including how often we'll meet Something practical to try before our next session, when it fits No pressure to have it all figured out before you come in. The first session is just the starting point

Strengths

I bring six years of running a prenatal agency, full-time work with children and teens, and a private practice built around mothers and families — so I understand both the clinical side and the real life happening around it. Perinatal and postpartum expertise — pregnancy, birth, postpartum adjustment, and the hard parts nobody warns you about Children and teens — I work with young people every day, not as a sideline Practical, not just talk — you'll leave with tools and language you can actually use between sessions A calm, direct, judgment-free space — especially for parents carrying guilt, grief, or burnout Care that fits your life — in person in Milwaukee, or by telehealth anywhere in Wisconsin

Ideal clients

My ideal client is a mother navigating pregnancy, birth, or postpartum life — or a parent trying to hold everything together while everyone needs something from you. You want more than a place to vent: you want to understand what's happening, learn tools you can actually use, and feel like yourself again. I also work with children and teens — the anxious kid who worries constantly, the teen who has shut down or started acting out, the young person going through a big transition like a move, a loss, or a family change. They don't need another adult talking down to them. They need someone who takes what they're feeling seriously, helps them name it, and gives them real skills for the hard days. If you're carrying guilt, grief, or burnout — or you're a parent watching your child struggle and not knowing how to help — and you're willing to do the work, even imperfectly, we'll probably be a good fit. You don't need the right words to start. Just bring what's real.

Treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT was built for people whose emotions feel huge and hard to manage. It's built on a balance: accepting yourself as you are, while also changing the patterns that keep you stuck. That balance is why I use it. In our sessions, DBT looks practical, not theoretical. We work on four sets of skills, depending on what you need most: Mindfulness — noticing what's happening without getting swept away by it Distress tolerance — getting through the hardest moments without making them worse Emotion regulation — understanding your emotions, and changing the ones that aren't serving you Interpersonal effectiveness — asking for what you need and saying no, without the guilt or the blowup

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — is built on a simple idea: your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected, so changing one can shift the others. It's structured and practical, which is why I use it. In our sessions, CBT looks like: Noticing the patterns — the thoughts that keep you stuck, like "I'm failing as a mom" or "everyone is judging me" Testing those thoughts — not just arguing with them, but checking them against what's actually true Building coping skills — small, doable changes you practice between sessions, not just talk about in the room Tracking what helps — so we keep doing what works and drop what doesn't

Child-Parent Psychotherapy

Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is an evidence-based treatment for young children — usually birth to age 5 — who have been through something scary or hard, and the parent or caregiver who loves them. It's built on one idea: the parent-child relationship is where healing happens. Play-based sessions with you and your child, meeting them where they are developmentally Understanding behavior as communication — tantrums, clinginess, sleep problems, or fear — especially after a hard experience Support for you, too — how your own history and stress show up in parenting, without blame Building safety and attachment — routines, repair after conflict, and moments of connection

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is built on something simple: children don't always have the words for what they're feeling — but they can show you through play. Toys, games, art, and stories become their language. In our sessions, your child leads the way: They choose what to play with, and I follow — helping them name feelings as they come up in the play A safe place to act out the hard stuff — worries, fears, a move, a loss, a new sibling, family stress — without having to explain it like an adult Skills built through play — solving problems, expressing anger safely, trying again after frustration, building confidence You're looped in — I'll share what I'm seeing and how you can support the work at home
