New to Grow
My name is David Haro. I am a millennial Hispanic man born and raised in Southern California, and I found my passion for mental health by growing up with a family member who suffered from schizophrenia. I did not know it at the time, but those years of trauma shaped me into the caring, empathetic, and compassionate human I feel I have become today. I try to meet my clients where they are and try to help them grow as much as they are able to in the time that we work together. I employ a Person-centered approach where the client is the expert, and I am a guide on their journey of self-discovery and healing. I look forward to working with you!
My first session, and sometimes first two sessions, are often information sharing and gathering. I will always tell you a little about myself, my experience, and what I feel I bring to the table as a potential therapist for you. I will also make sure to answer any questions regarding the therapeutic process, especially if this is your first time. After that, it's all about you. I want to know what brought you to therapy, what do you feel you are struggling with the most, how I can best support you now, and where do you hope to be when therapy ends.
My greatest strengths as a therapist revolve around my ability to build a genuine, trusting relationship with my clients while creating a safe, open, and nonjudgmental space. I value openness and inclusivity, and when appropriate, I like to weave in my interests of sports, video games, and exercise in order to create a relaxed and relatable environment.
Through my lived experience, I feel I am best positioned to served men of all ages, but particularly men between the ages of 13-40. Those men who are either going through hard times, or have gotten past the difficult periods but are struggling to make sense of it all. I enjoy and am open to working with individuals from all walks of life as well, if you think I may be a good fit for you, I would love the opportunity to work with you.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Since I first started my career as a student intern in 2019/2020, the feedback I received the most often was regarding my "Person-centered" approach to my therapy. I feel the most powerful lesson professionals should learn is that the client is the expert in themself, and we are here to guide you on the journey to self-discovery and healing. I will also have a framework on how to approach treatment/sessions, but ultimately the choice will always lie with you.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT was originally created to help individuals who suffer from personality disorders, specifically Borderline Personality Disorder. However, I have found that DBT likely contains the most useful base of therapy skills for almost all situations. While I don't center my treatment around one approach, I often like to weave DBT skills/theory into sessions while always follow a Person-centered approach first and foremost.
