Toniqua LaFleur
Hi, I’m Toni, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I’m passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges, better understand their emotions, and develop healthier ways of coping. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and everyday stressors.
Your Feelings Are Valid. Your Choices Are Yours.
My approach is supportive, honest, and down-to-earth, creating a safe, judgment-free space where you can be yourself. I believe that while our feelings are always valid, we also have the power to take accountability for our choices and make meaningful changes in our lives. My goal is to help you pause, process, and proceed with greater confidence, self-awareness, and emotional well-being.
First session
Your first session is all about getting to know each other and creating a space where you feel comfortable being yourself. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you've been experiencing, and what you hope to gain from our time together. I'll ask questions to better understand your background, challenges, and goals, but there's no pressure to share everything at once. I understand that opening up to someone new can feel uncomfortable, especially if this is your first experience with therapy. My approach is conversational, supportive, and judgment-free, so you can expect a genuine conversation rather than feeling like you're being interviewed. We'll also discuss what therapy may look like moving forward and begin identifying areas you'd like to work on. You don't need to have all the answers or know exactly what to say. Just come as you are, and we'll take it from there!
Strengths
I bring a combination of compassion, honesty, humor, and a down-to-earth approach to my sessions. I'm not the type of therapist who will just sit back, nod, and ask, "How does that make you feel?" I believe in having real conversations, asking meaningful questions, and helping you look at situations from different perspectives. I'm supportive and nonjudgmental, but I'm also going to challenge you when needed because growth requires both self-awareness and accountability. I understand that everyone processes emotions differently, so I tailor my approach to your individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is for you to feel comfortable being yourself while gaining practical tools, building confidence, and learning how to navigate life's challenges in healthier ways.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves, even if they're not quite sure where to start. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed by everything life throws your way. You might recognize certain patterns in your life but have difficulty figuring out how to change them, or maybe you're still trying to understand why you think, feel, or react the way you do. You don't have to have everything figured out, and you certainly don't have to be perfect. I enjoy working with individuals who are open to honest conversations, willing to have uncomfortable conversations, receptive to different perspectives, and ready to challenge themselves in ways that encourage personal growth. I believe meaningful change requires not only self-awareness but also accountability, intentionality, and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone. My goal is to help you move beyond simply recognizing your challenges and begin making meaningful changes that support your emotional well-being.
Treatment methods
Strength-Based
I use a strengths-based approach to help clients recognize the positive qualities, abilities, and resilience they already possess, even when they're struggling to see them. Rather than focusing solely on challenges, we explore what's working, build on existing strengths, and identify how those strengths can help overcome obstacles. My goal is to empower clients to develop confidence, recognize their potential, and make meaningful changes while taking accountability for their personal growth.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. Together, we identify negative thinking patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and explore how these patterns influence everyday decisions and reactions. My approach focuses on building self-awareness, developing practical coping skills, and learning healthier ways to respond to challenges. The goal is to help you move beyond recognizing patterns and begin making intentional changes in your daily life.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients focus on their goals, recognize what's already working, and identify practical steps toward positive change. Rather than spending every session focused on the problem, we explore solutions, build on existing strengths, and identify small, achievable goals. My approach encourages clients to recognize their ability to make changes, take intentional action, and build confidence as they move toward the outcomes they want.
Faith-based therapy
I incorporate faith-based therapy for clients who want their spiritual beliefs to be part of their healing journey. Together, we explore how faith, personal values, and spiritual practices can provide strength, comfort, and guidance while navigating life's challenges. I combine faith-based perspectives with evidence-based therapeutic approaches to support emotional well-being, personal growth, and healthy decision-making. My approach is always guided by your individual beliefs and preferences, without judgment or pressure.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore their feelings about change, work through uncertainty, and identify their own reasons for wanting things to be different. Through open and honest conversations, we examine what's holding you back, strengthen your motivation, and build confidence in your ability to make meaningful changes. My approach is supportive and nonjudgmental while encouraging self-awareness, accountability, and intentional decision-making at your own pace.
