(she/her)
Greetings! I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Minnesota. I received my Masters of Social Work from the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine's University in St. Paul, MN. I have been in practice for ten years. I work with adolescents and adults to help identify and process life circumstances that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, depression or substance use.
During our first session, I love to take some time to get to know each other. I will give you my background and take some time to answer any questions you may have. Then, I will have you share with me what brings you in to see me. During this session, I may ask some background information, but please know, whether it's our first session or last, you will always have a say in what we are discussing. This session will give me an opportunity to create a plan that will be used in our follow-up sessions.
I chose to become a therapist as a second career. I am incredibly passionate about working with people to help them through trying times. I am a firm believer that you are the driver of our sessions together; you know you best. I am here to help navigate and offer support along the way. I am compassionate and have great empathy for the curve balls life can throw at us. I have ten years of experience in a variety of specific therapies that can help guide our sessions. I am eager to work with you to find the therapy that works best for you.
I love working with a variety of clients to help uncover the strengths they each possess. I really enjoy working with young people in middle and high school who are struggling with the demands of school, friends, extracurriculars and the overwhelm that comes with the pressures of social media. I also enjoy working with adults who may be addressing their anxiety and overwhelm for possibly the first time. Sometimes coping with the stressors of life leads us to less healthy coping mechanisms. Whether that's overuse of alcohol, other substances or food-related, I enjoy helping those wanting to make a change. I spent a few years of my career working in an addiction recovery center and am passionate about working with those contemplating recovery. Additionally, I have a background in working with our military veterans and continue to enjoy working with this population.
I have been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with clients for over ten years. Through this therapy we will work together to identify the thoughts and behaviors you have in specific situations to better help you manage stress, anxiety and depression symptoms.
I have been using the skills associated with Dialectical Behavior Therapy since 2017. The four modules--Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance--offer strategies and skills that are helpful in a variety of situations. The foundation is learning mindfulness which will help you stay centered and grounded during times of stress.
