Hi, I’m Rebecca Jensen, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I believe one of the most important parts of therapy is having a space where you can be yourself and feel genuinely heard and understood.

I strive to bring empathy, openness, and a genuine interest in understanding each person’s story.

I want our time together to feel comfortable and collaborative, where you can talk openly about what’s going on in your life without feeling judged or pressured to have all the answers.

First session

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a therapeutic relationship. We’ll spend time learning about you, your experiences, and what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask some questions to help me better understand your background and what you hope to get out of our work together, but there is no pressure to share everything at once. We’ll also make space for any questions you have about therapy, my approach, or what working together might look like. My goal is for our first session to feel like a conversation where you can begin to get a sense of me and whether we feel like a good fit.

Strengths

I strive to bring empathy, openness, and a genuine interest in understanding each person’s story. My approach is primarily person-centered, which means I want to understand your perspective and work alongside you rather than tell you what you should do. I believe each person brings their own strengths, experiences, and understanding of their life into therapy. My background in marriage and family therapy also shapes how I view the ways our relationships, family experiences, and environments influence us. Above all, I want therapy to be a place where you feel comfortable being yourself and where we can work together to figure out what feels helpful for you.

Ideal clients

I enjoy working with people who want to better understand themselves and make sense of their experiences. Whether we are exploring anxiety, ADHD, relationships, family dynamics, or life transitions, I value taking the time to look beyond the immediate problem and understand the bigger picture. I’m interested in the patterns we develop, how our experiences shape the way we see ourselves and relate to others, and what it might look like to do things differently. My approach is person-centered and collaborative, so our work will be guided by your experiences and what feels important to you. Sometimes that means finding practical ways to manage everyday challenges, and other times it means slowing down, getting curious, and exploring things more deeply. I enjoy helping people connect the dots, recognize their strengths, and develop a better understanding of themselves and their relationships.

Treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as you navigate your experiences. In session, I focus on listening with empathy, understanding your perspective, and creating space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. This might look like talking through a difficult interaction, exploring emotions that are hard to put into words, or noticing patterns in your relationships and how you respond to different situations. I may ask questions to help you reflect, offer observations about what I’m hearing, or help you slow down and make sense of an experience. Rather than assuming I know what is best for you, I follow your lead and work collaboratively to explore what feels important.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I use emotionally focused therapy (EFT) to help you better understand your emotions and how they influence your relationships and interactions with others. In session, this might look like exploring what is underneath a feeling of frustration, identifying the hurt or fear that can show up during conflict, or recognizing patterns in how you respond when you feel misunderstood or disconnected from someone. We may slow down a specific interaction, explore what you were feeling in that moment, and consider what you needed but may have struggled to express.

Trauma-Informed Care

I believe your experiences deserve to be approached with care, respect, and understanding. A trauma-informed approach means recognizing how difficult experiences can shape the way we feel, respond to stress, and relate to others, without making assumptions about your story. In session, this might look like exploring emotional triggers, recognizing responses that may have helped you cope in the past, or finding ways to feel more grounded when emotions become overwhelming. You are always in control of what you choose to share, and there is no expectation that you discuss difficult experiences before you feel ready. We work at a pace that feels manageable for you, with an emphasis on your strengths, sense of safety, and personal goals.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on understanding how past experiences, relationships, and patterns may influence how we think, feel, and relate to others today. In session, this might look like exploring recurring patterns in relationships, noticing how you respond to certain situations, or reflecting on how earlier experiences have shaped your beliefs about yourself and others. We may explore connections between past and present to help you better understand your reactions, emotions, and relationship patterns. My goal is to help you develop greater self-awareness and understanding, creating space for new perspectives and different ways of relating to yourself and others.
