Hi, I'm Cory Ian Shafer, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with my Masters in Counseling. I have been practicing professionally in the counseling field since 2005 and have worked in the mental health field since 1999. I approach therapy primarily as a Jungian-Existentialist, however, I also realize that many clients may need different approaches to achieve their success, and because of that I also incorporate an eclectic approach towards therapy in addition to my primary school of thought, therefore I can utilize many different modalities and approaches of therapy depending on the what you need in your sessions. My specializations are working with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and grief counseling. I also like to write a little bit and have published a few books concerning the human condition. On the personal side of things I lead a simple and quiet life, where I enjoy reading history, science fiction and philosophy books, playing the bass guitar, listening to music, traveling and amateur astronomy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session we will explore your primary reason for needing to talk to someone, after that we'll talk a little about your history, who you are and what you want out of therapy. After that we will begin the journey towards helping you to reach your therapuetic goals

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my biggest strengths is that I too suffer in this life. I am non-judgmental, caring and compassionate.

My treatment methods

Using an existntial approach asks questions that probe introspection and challenge long held beliefs and assumptions, existentialism asks who you are, where are you, what are you doing and why.
