New to Grow
Hello, I am Jennel, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with 5 years of experience working with individuals and couples. I focus on helping clients work through anxiety, depression, phase of life changes, family and romantic relationships. I also work with clients to build skills to improve everyday function. With my diverse background in my personal and professional life, I will work hand in hand with you and meet you where you are.
The first session gives me an opportunity to learn more about you as a person, your presenting problem and therapy goals using the intake assessment as a guide. This is also an opportunity for you to get to know me as a person and a therapist.
I take a holistic approach to counseling and focus on client's strengths. I also strive to find a balance between validation and encouraging client's out of their comfort using honest and constructive feedback in addition to healthy support.
I enjoy working with clients working through depression, anxiety, phase of life problems, and problems with platonic or romantic relationships. I also often work with students helping them manage academic stress, and navigating healthy friendships. As an immigrant myself, i also enjoy working with other immigrants or first-generation Americans, especially when navigating identity and culture. I appreciate clients who are open to learning new skills and challenging themselves.
My initial approach to any client is using Person Centered Therapy and will typically shift to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is usually my first approach until therapy goals are established and then treatment methods are reviewed and adjusted if needed. The Person Centered Approach empowers client to lead and focuses on strengths and personal growth. Cognitive behavioral therapy allows us to connect thoughts, feelings and actions.
