New to Grow
Hi, I’m Afrika Hamilton, a licensed professional counselor who works with children, teens, and adults to navigate anxiety, emotional challenges, and life transitions. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, TF-CBT, and family therapy to help clients build practical skills, improve relationships, and create more balance and confidence in their lives. My goal is to provide a supportive, compassionate space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow.
During your first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other and talking about what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, and what you hope to gain from our work together. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share what’s important to you, and begin identifying goals for therapy. My goal is to create a comfortable and supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and confident about the path forward.
What sets my therapeutic approach apart is that I combine evidence-based methods like CBT, TF-CBT, and family therapy with expressive art and creative interventions. I believe that art and writing can be a powerful way to explore emotions, process experiences, and communicate what’s hard to put into words. This approach allows clients to engage in therapy in a more meaningful, hands-on way, helping them develop coping skills, build self-awareness, and make real progress in a way that feels personal and empowering.
I am best positioned to support children, teens, and adults who are navigating anxiety, emotional challenges, life transitions, or relationship difficulties and are open to learning new ways to understand themselves and grow. Many of my clients are looking for practical tools to manage stress, improve communication, and build healthier patterns in their lives. My dream clients are individuals and families who are willing to be curious about their thoughts and behaviors, engage in the therapeutic process, and work toward creating more balance, confidence, and connection in their lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my work with clients. This approach helps us explore how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and practice new ways of thinking and responding to challenges. My goal is to help you develop practical tools and coping skills that you can use in your everyday life.
Family Therapy
Family therapy is an important part of my work, especially when supporting children and teens. I help families create a safe space where everyone can communicate more openly, understand each other’s perspectives, and work through challenges together. In sessions, we focus on improving communication, strengthening relationships, and developing practical strategies that help the whole family feel more supported and connected.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) when working with children and teens who have experienced difficult or traumatic events. In therapy, I help clients gently process their experiences while learning healthy ways to manage big emotions, anxiety, and stress. I also involve caregivers when appropriate so they can better support their child’s healing and create a stronger sense of safety and connection at home.
