In 2010 I completed my masters education for Clinical Counseling in Colorado and then soon after became licensed in South Carolina where I worked at The College of Charleston for 6 years working int he Counseling Center. Currently I reside in Florida where I work full time at New College of Florida in the Counseling and Wellness Office. I love telehealth as my side gig as it is convenient for both of us. For you, as the client to have the convenience of therapy from your own couch and for me working from my home office.
Our first session will set the stage for how we will work together! Let's plan according to your needs. We will discuss what you are ready to change to create a life worth living, out of the misery and in to the hear and now. I will help you decide what goals you would like to achieve as we will make a plan.
Since I have worked with young adult females for 8 years, a few of my principal strengths include understanding, observation and non judgement. My job is to work myself out of a job by helping you get to where you want to be. You know yourself best; (even if you don’t think you do) and developing that self-empowerment is life changing.
My door is open and accepting to all women. My expertise and passion is working with the young adult female population. Spending 8 years, full time, in a 2 different college counseling centers, I get it! Psychotherapy can be a daunting experience to consider. You are investing time out of your life to take a look at a complex interplay of contexts which can include gender, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, cultural background, and family of origin. Your time is valuable and a therapist should "get" you - and get you going so make the choice that suits your needs and lets do a free 15 minute consult to see if we are a good therapeutic fit.
Learning life skills to create a "life worth living” is just what DBT does and I as an experienced therapist and user of the skills operate on the assumption that people are doing the best they can, want to do better, and need compassionate support in learning skills to create the lives they want to live. Learning mindfulness as well as managing emotions, coping with unexpected obstacles, and overcoming stressors is the goal that as a therapist I find extremely useful for myself and most clients if they are willing to embrace change.
After many years of training in EMDR I find it to be an excellent treatment for moving forward from any sort of trauma that has been experienced. When we think negatively about ourselves, we can usually remember a time when something happened. This is when EMDR can be used to create healing from our pasts so they stop messing with our current life.
"It all in your head." This statement is wrong! Our body stores our memories so our bodies need to be treated through movement, mindfulness and a regular practice suited to a client's individual needs to move anxiety away and experience a release in their body.
