LCSW, 24 years of experience
New to Grow
I am a seasoned and compassionate therapist with over 24 years of experience and strong clinical skills, serving at various mental health treatment settings in New York City, including acute care, outpatient care, crisis intervention hotline and school outreach. I have worked at the outpatient clinic of South Beach Psychiatric Center for over 21 years, providing treatment for those individuals with severe mental illness.
I will be open-minded, warm and gentle in our first session. I will thrive to create a confidential, safe and comfortable space, where we will explore what brought you to therapy, where you get stuck, what you might want to make changes, and decide what would be the most appropriate ways to help you push through.
My therapeutic approach is holistic, collaborative and strengths-based, integrating different frameworks in my counseling, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, (DBT), Trauma-Informed Therapy, Culturally Sensitive Therapy and psychodynamic and etc.
I offer therapy to those who struggle with a variety of pain and hardships, such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem, identity, career, life transition, relational conflicts, trauma and grief. With my compassion, my intensive expertise, my bilingual Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and bicultural background, I am highly specialized in working with Chinese-speaking population in the community. I understand the unusual challenges that most of the Chinese immigrants and their families face. I believe that each client is a unique individual, with their innate capacity for healing, and potential for growth. My role is to develop a secure and trustful therapeutic alliance, which can help you tap into your inner strengths, resilience and wisdom, to better cope with and eventually navigate through these challenges in life.
While using Cognitive Behavioral therapy approach, we will build a collaborative solution-focused platform, where we will explore the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I will help you work on identifying the negative and unhelpful thoughts patterns, so that you can develop positive emotional and behavioral responses to better manage your distress.
My experience with psychodynamic therapy has helped clients to gain deep and lasting insights into how our past experiences, especially childhood relationships, have affected our current challenges, behavioral and emotional patterns. This approach will help you develop a rich understanding of your inner work, which will help you develop a rich understanding of your inner world, provide enduring benefits and personal growth.
While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focusing on making changes and finding solutions, Dialectical Behavior Therapy method will help my clients learn a package of skill set to handle crisis and distresses, regulate emotions, stay mindful, build frustration tolerance, accept who you are and where you are, while working to make positive and meaningful changes in your life.
