Steven Forsyth
A Masters-in-Counseling graduate, I am also an addict and alcoholic with 43 years in recovery, so my understandings of alcoholism, multiple-drug-addiction, and the relationships and many complex dynamics involved with those difficulties is 'personal-based'. I am also the eldest of five brothers-from a large Christian family-and am fully acquainted with the involved family dynamics involved in coping with that role.
First session
Our first session will be when we become familiar and acquainted with each other, and one of my personal standards is that our first session be as stress-free as is possible.
Strengths
My personal experiences with addictions as well as those growing up in a large, physician's family, as well as my Scouting background, have put me in personal touch with interpersonal dynamics as well as having a love of Nature and of the outdoors.
Ideal clients
Folks suffering from addictive illnesses, anxieties and phobias; depression, and personal coping issues. Issues that are amenable to Cognitive-behavioral methods: straightforward, non-psychiatrically-indicated/obviously medication-indicated patients. Patients with self-worth and/or poor self-esteem issues. Folks troubled by family dynamics and/or couples also trobled by interpersonal/relationship dynamics. Folks stressed by everyday living conditions, their abilities to effectively cope with them, and the ability to remain calm under stress.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT relies on 'common-sense' reasoning and I try to to utilize straightforward thought processes to resolve issues like anxiety and depression.
EMDR
In November of 2022 I was trained by the EMDR Institute in EMDR procedures. Since then I have found them to be uniquely effective for stress relief.
