Hello! I'm Kiara-a licensed social worker who specializes in DBT (great for coping skills, getting "unstuck", and building a life worth living). My goal as a therapist is to make you feel safe to express yourself and explore wherever you are at in life. I value being both warm and empathetic, while being direct in helping you step outside of your comfort zone.
The first session is guided by you. Often times I will ask questions to better understand what you are hoping to get out of working together, however that doesn't mean you have to answer them if you aren't ready. I believe knowledge is power so I won't shy away from answering your own questions about the therapeutic process either.
I aim to be the most empathetic version of myself at all times. Being a social worker and therapist is part of my identity, not just my job. I believe therapy is sacred and I do not take the work we will do together lightly. I will be there to help you access the quality of life you are looking for, with respect, an objective perspective, emotional support, and occasionally, humor.
I mesh best with clients who trust the process-easier said than done, I know! Older adolescents and young adults seem to be my niche as often times those are the time periods in life where interpersonal challenges, life transitions, dysregulated emotions etc. tend to show up.
DBT is my first love when it comes to therapeutic approaches! I incorporate the full DBT package- the skills, the sessions, diary cards, and phone coaching.
I believe the most effective approach is one without judgment, where I empathize with where each person is, regardless of how their trauma impacted or influences them.
