Femme Duncan

LICSW (she/her)1 year of experience

A Licensed Independent Clinician in Rhode Island and Massachusetts who graduated from Fordham University. I'm here to walk alongside you on your path as I have ten-plus years of working with diverse groups of individuals from various communities and challenges. As a therapist, I aim to empower my clients- help them to clarify their goals, navigate challenges through insight, and formulate coping strategies.

First session

During the first session, emphasis is placed on building a therapeutic rapport between the client and therapist. The next focus is placed on gathering background information about the presenting problems, the client's concerns, and their expectations and goals of therapy.

Strengths

I am an empathetic therapist: I excel at creating a safe listening space where my clients feel heard and understood. I can help clients reflect their thoughts and feelings in ways that help deepen self-awareness, which is a core component of empowerment, growth, and healing.

Ideal clients

As a therapist, I am best positioned to assist Clients interested in exploring the underlying causes of their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions and who are ready to engage in meaningful self-reflection and change. I work best with individuals who are motivated to explore patterns in their past and present to foster lasting change through empowerment.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps clients look at how negative thought patterns affect their emotions and then shows how their emotions affect their behaviors. The therapist helps clients interpret events and provoke a healthier way of thinking.

Motivational Interviewing

MI emphasizes therapy must be Collaborative: a partnership between the therapist and the client. The therapist through evocation: assumes that the client has the inherent capacity for change, and the therapist’s role is to draw out that potential. Autonomy: The client is the ultimate decision-maker. The therapist respects the client’s autonomy and their right to make decisions about their life.

Solution-Focused Brief Treatment

Emphasizing positive change is possible: clients can make meaningful, positive changes. SFT holds that small changes can lead to big transformations.
