Karina Oquendo
Hi, I’m a bilingual, board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing thoughtful, individualized mental health care for children ages 8 and older, adolescents, and adults. I work with individuals experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and a variety of other mental health concerns, using evidence-based treatment and personalized medication management based on each patient’s unique needs. I provide both secure telehealth appointments throughout Florida and in-person care in Wesley Chapel. My goal is to make seeking mental health care feel comfortable and approachable. I believe patients should have a space where they can openly discuss their concerns, ask questions, and feel genuinely heard and respected throughout the process.
I specialize in ADHD and mood disorders, focusing on accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans.
Treatment is always collaborative and tailored to you. I take time to understand not only your symptoms, but also your experiences, priorities, lifestyle, and goals when developing a treatment plan. Whether you’re seeking help with attention and focus, anxiety, depression, mood changes, or another mental health concern, my goal is to help you feel more confident in your care and supported as you work toward improved mental health and everyday well-being.
First session
Your first visit is an opportunity for us to learn more about you, your concerns, and what you hope to achieve through treatment. During your comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, we’ll review your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, and any factors that may be affecting your overall well-being. You’ll also have time to ask questions and discuss your goals and preferences for care. Together, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, which may include medication management, education, and practical strategies to support your mental health and everyday life.
Strengths
My greatest strength is combining clinical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach. I take the time to listen carefully, understand each client’s unique experiences, and create a welcoming environment where they feel heard, respected, and supported. I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders, with an emphasis on thoughtful evaluation and individualized treatment. I also value education and collaboration, helping clients better understand their options while offering practical strategies that support meaningful and sustainable progress.
Ideal clients
I work best with children (8+), teenagers, and adults who are seeking support for ADHD, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. Many of my clients are motivated to better understand their symptoms and improve daily functioning, whether in school, work, or relationships. I also enjoy working with women’s mental health, providing a supportive and collaborative approach that combines medication management with practical strategies for long-term wellness.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I combine CBT techniques with medication management to treat ADHD, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. My approach is collaborative and focused on giving clients practical tools they can use in their everyday lives.
Supportive
I provide supportive therapy by creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. I help clients process stressors, build coping skills, and navigate life challenges while reinforcing their strengths. This approach is often combined with medication management to promote stability and overall emotional wellness.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore ambivalence and build motivation for change. Through a collaborative and empathetic approach, I support clients in setting realistic goals and making meaningful behavioral changes, especially in areas such as treatment adherence, lifestyle habits, and emotional health.
Psychoeducation
I provide psychoeducation to help clients better understand their diagnoses, symptoms, and treatment options. I believe that informed clients feel more empowered and engaged in their care, so I take time to explain how medications work and teach practical strategies to manage symptoms effectively.
