LMFT, 8 years of experience
Hi, I’m Tishawna Lewis, LMFT. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, Georgia, and Texas with a passion for helping people heal, grow, and reconnect with their strengths. I work with adults and adolescents navigating anxiety, trauma, OCD, and life transitions. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care tailored to your unique needs. Whether you're starting therapy for the first time or returning after a break, I offer a safe, affirming space where meaningful change can begin.
In our first session, you can expect a welcoming and nonjudgmental space where we begin getting to know each other. I’ll ask about what’s bringing you to therapy, explore some of your history, and begin identifying the goals you’d like to work toward. It’s important to me that you feel safe and heard, so I move at your pace—there’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready for. By the end of our session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how I work and how we can move forward together.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a compassionate, culturally responsive space where clients feel genuinely seen and supported. I balance empathy with clinical expertise, drawing from evidence-based modalities like CBT, EMDR, and ERP to help clients make meaningful and lasting change. My approach is both structured and flexible—I meet clients where they are while helping them move toward their goals with clarity and confidence. Clients often share that they appreciate how I help them feel safe to explore hard topics without pressure or judgment, while also gently challenging patterns that no longer serve them.
My ideal clients are adults and adolescents who are ready to explore their emotional world with curiosity and courage. Many of the people I work with are navigating anxiety, trauma, OCD, life transitions, or the weight of high-functioning stress that no one else seems to notice. They often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck—but still motivated to better understand themselves and create meaningful change. I’m especially well-suited to support individuals who value a therapeutic relationship built on trust, compassion, and cultural awareness. Whether you're looking to heal from past experiences, learn to manage intrusive thoughts, or build healthier boundaries, I offer a grounded, collaborative space where your goals guide the process.
I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with adults presenting with anxiety, depression, adjustment concerns, and trauma-related symptoms. In my work, I’ve seen how CBT’s structured, skills-based approach helps clients gain greater awareness of the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I regularly integrate CBT in both short-term and long-term therapy, tailoring interventions to each client’s goals.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have experience using it with clients who present with trauma histories, anxiety, and intrusive memories. I value EMDR as an evidence-based approach that allows clients to process distressing experiences in a safe, structured way. In my work, I’ve observed that EMDR can help clients move beyond cognitive insight alone, facilitating deeper emotional integration and symptom reduction.
I have extensive training and practice using Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support clients who are navigating ambivalence, behavior change, or readiness for treatment. MI has been especially effective in my work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, substance use, health-related avoidance, and life transitions. I value MI’s client-centered, collaborative style, which emphasizes autonomy and builds motivation from within rather than imposing external pressure.
I am trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy, a highly effective, evidence-based treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related anxiety conditions. In my clinical work, I have used ERP to help clients reduce compulsive behaviors, lessen avoidance, and build tolerance to uncertainty. I value ERP because it provides clients with concrete tools to confront fears and break the cycle of obsession and compulsion.
I utilize an eclectic approach in my clinical practice, drawing from multiple evidence-based modalities—including CBT, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, ERP, and mindfulness-based interventions. My experience has shown that no single method fits every client or every situation. An eclectic framework allows me to adapt interventions to the client’s unique presenting issues, cultural background, and treatment goals, while still maintaining structure and clinical intention.
