My name is David Lori. I have provided in-person and, over the past six years (telehealth) counseling to children, adolescents, and adults for over 25 years. I welcome new and returning clients into telehealth services. I believe it is important for individuals to feel supported, emotionally safe, and know that they are being heard and not judged. I have adopted various clinical approaches to my work with clients, including but not limited to Client-Centered, Solution-Focused, Existential, and Cognitive-Behavioral treatment. I encourage clients to drive treatment in terms of what is meaningful for them to discuss during sessions. I consider myself a grounded, genuine and welcoming therapist. I work to promote insights, effective coping skills, and growth for each individual served. In addition, I encourage clients to not only work towards managing symptoms but also what their struggles are attempting to inform them about the situations themselves.
I heavily focus on attending to what is bringing individuals into session while also working to establish therapeutic rapport/trust. Gathering as much background information as the client is willing to provide, as well as getting to know both interests and strengths, and how the individual has made it to this point. In addition, it is also important to clarify what the individual is hoping to gain out of treatment.
My approach is to be non-judgmental and supportive, to utilize self when appropriate, and to encourage the client to drive treatment in terms of what is important to them. I bring many years of in-home, community, and clinic-based experience to the therapeutic environment.
I don't view it through the lens of an ideal client, but rather as an individual who is motivated to make positive, effective changes to improve the overall quality of their life. My hope is that clients are open to feedback and that we can create a treatment agreement that involves reciprocal discussion that promotes client insight and growth. Despite any challenges that occur during treatment, when clients continue to return to sessions, this validates the effectiveness of the relationship.
Engaging with client through in-depth, meaningful discussion. Working to elicit specific situations where client reports any type of success/relief and encouraging the individual to "do more" of what works during that time.
